Well a few weeks ago i was driving the g3 because the g2 was getting work done at the shop(inspection really). Well all of a sudden i heard this loud grinding noise and a clunk. come to find out i lost a pad on each side and the rotors were grinding on the pistons of the caliper. So i bought new calipers rotors and pads. I had a problem though. I bought this all from autozone. The rotors are rubbing against the caliper bracket. The pads arent setting in right. The rotors say 12.7mm on the top. I need to get this thing done tomorrow night because i have to go to kirks on friday....all help is appreciated.

Chris, do the old rotors clear the bracket OK? If so, compare the new rotors to the old side-by-side and see if they are the same size. I think it would be unusual for AZ to give you the wrong rotors since all Taurus/Sable rear rotors have been the same since '93, but I suppose they could have been mis-boxed too.

Next thing to do is compare the casting codes on the new calipers and brackets to the old (if you haven't already returned the cores) and make sure they're the same. That's assuming you got new brackets -- if you used the old brackets, it's possible they may have become bent when the pads left the building.

If worse comes to worse, give Kirk a call and we can arrange to just come down and get the car to bring it to the shop, and then figure out what's going on.

you know chris that might be it. i think the bracket might be bent. the top clears it and the bottom doesnt. even with grinding. i compared the passeneger side rotor which was fine with the new ones and they were the same. Where would i be able to get a new bracket. Are they the same for the taurus and sable just regular ones

Thanks for the speedy reply :thumb:

I would check the brackets as well. I just replaced both rear ones on the '98 due to frozen slider pins. If you get the ones from Autozone they come with new slider pins and they aren't that expensive. New pads, rotors, and brackets finally solved the grinding/rubbing/only one side working/ problems I had all year.

You didn't happen to keep the old rotors to compare sizing did you? I always get the part # from the website before I get to the store to be sure I get the right part. Get the pn and take one of the rotors back to the store to compare if necessary.

Like MR ANONIMOUS said every taurus, sable or sho uses the same rear bracket. You can get it new or go to the yunk yard and have it for less than $15 for both.

Yes, the brackets are the same for every '93+ Taurus/Sable. Unfortunately they're not a usual stocking item at most parts stores, but if you get there early enough tomorrow they can probably have them for you on Thursday. Try Advance first, as AutoZone shows them as an internet only item. They should be under $15 each.

The AZ around here had 2 in stock searching all the stores in a 25mile radius. Unfortunately one of them had a damaged box and lost the slider pins and I had to wait 2 days to get another. You may have better luck and find 2 locally.
