Actually it's with the control itself. When my wipers are on(not intermittent), a bump in the road will switch them to intermittent. If I wiggle the stalk a bit they will return to a steady pace. This also happened on my old 94 but I had the stalk replaced under warranty.

I don't want to bring it to a dealership to get fixed. Is this something I could fix on my own? I could probably find the part on Ebay but I'm not too confident that I could replace it.

Sounds like the multi-function switch. There is a way to take it apart and clean it. Nimz will likely chime in shortly with more details. Or you can search V8sho.com for the info.

I took mine out of the car. Then took the cap off the end of the stalk. Inside is a spring and a set of contacts. There will be hard grease coated on this. Take it apart and spray it with some solvent to soften the grease. When clean lightly sand the contacts with a very fine grit abrasive. Then put a coat of vasoline on the contact surface and put back together.

While you have it out of the car, spray WD 40 into all the openings and work the switch through all it's motions. Be sure to get into the hazard flasher area too. Do this several times, wipe down, let dry and reinstall.

It is a known problem with alot of taurases and you will probally end up buying a new one and the best new price i found is $70. To change it you will have to take the trim off of the column and will consist of taking the ignition out. You might be able to find one on ebay.

The ignition does not need to come out to remove the MFS. Undo the three screws under the column cover and it will pop apart enough to get at the two torx screws that hold the MFS in place. The follow Pauls instruction on cleaning.

My MFS died and I got one at the junkyard for like 10 bucks.

Thanks for all the help. You guys make it sound pretty easy so I give it a try. I'll let you know how it turns out.
