I wanted to comment on thier exellent customer service. I sent back a 75mm Bullet for recalibration due to idle problems (2nd time) and was truthfully not expecting them to do anything but throw it on the flowbench and make sure it worked "good enough". It is sad what I have come to expect from companies in general. shrug

This morning, however, Scott from pro-m CALLED ME and tried to help troubleshoot the problem. We came to the conclusion that our small displacment engines might not flow enough at idle to accomidate the sensor mechanism of the 75mm Bullet. So he is going to be sending me a new type of MAF, calibrated for the SHO, that has the same flow numbers as the 75mm but has a different type of meter element that should make it idle like a dream (he said even better than stock). I will let you all know how this works out for me when it gets here.

Man, I love it when businesses suprise me and pay more attention to the customer than some silly profit chart in a meeting. hail I am thoroughly impressed. :)

They are great people out there. When I went to pick up Mel's 75mm MAF I had the honor of meeting both the owner and his son and got a personalized tour of their old and new facility.

hey ty,

PLEASE email me when you get this new maf. my pro m 80mm maf (the big ass plastic one) has the squirrely idle and throws the cel light on deceleration. no big deal, but i bet both problems are related to the sensor.

if it works, let me know, i can send mine back for the new type of sensor as well.

thanks man,

I got the MAF via FedEX yesterday and installed it this morning. The housing is the same but the meter element is completely different. Here:

I love the power these things unleash but yet again I seem to have idle problems. Same old story...Intermitant bouncyness of the idle. It does seem to have improved a slight bit, but did not solve the problem all together.

I am thinking that my cone filter (just sitting in the engine bay) is blocking air flow at low CFM. Luckily I have the SHOshop can and horn in transit to me so I will let you know if that helps at all.

This is frustrating, but I have decided that I am Ok with it. If you want to play...you know the rest.

Keep us informed Ty. I have issues with a 77mm unit of theirs with similar symptoms to yours.

I have the same chrome 75mm with the big "horn" style sensor and I also have an unsteady idle. It's not that bad and I had the same problem with the Ford 80 and LPM so I'm just living with it for now.

I put in the new intake system and the engine still suffers from the bouncy idle. Its sad because I know its the MAF (stocker doesnt do it) and I we just cant get it perfect. Oh, well.

this might sound stupid, but maybe it isn't really the MAF, but more like the MAF bringing out a weakness in the entire system..

What if the IAC works fine with the stock MAF, but doesn't work so well with the upgraded MAF...

Thats actually a really good idea... I wish I could test it without having to purchase a new IAC.

Hey MODs can we move this to the Gen I&II repair section for more help from the guys who might not see this in the vendor feedback section.

What about getting a maf from a junkyard and honing it out and keep the original as a back up. I did this on my ranger and what a difference.

You cant just bore out a MAF and expect good results, especially on the SHO. By boring it out you have increased the amount of air that can flow at any time, this means you must increase the amount of fuel that is combined with the air or you will get a lean condition. If you just bore the housing and dont recalibrate the meter element it doesn't recognize that more air is getting through and will not put out more fuel.

Yeah I have the exact same problem with my PRO-M 80. Its really annoying I just wish I could do something about it BESIDES putting the stock maf back in.
