Pressure Plate Condition

I took the clutch and PP off yesterday to see how they looked. Clutch looked good as far as I could tell. The PP had 3 or 4 very small cracks along its outer edge though. None larger than about 1 cm. Anything to worry about? I'll take a pic if I can find my camera.

If i'm picturing it right, I have had the same thing happen to a few of my PP's as well....

I don't know the exact cause of it, probably a mix between heat and excess disc material hitting the PP would be my best guess, but I have thrown a few back in that had them... didn't notice anything unusual...

Put a straightedge across the PP, from edge to edge. Look at how much it dips between the inside and outside edges. These PP's will warp like a salad bowl, dropping in the center. If the inside edge is depressed much more than 7 or 8 thou you might want to look into a new clutch.

why run the risk of putting in a worn pp? :nut:
do yourself a favor, have the flywheel ground and put in a new pp

+1, its all apart now, how ****** would you be if you put it back in and then it went out, or worse exploded and shredded you trans case:salute:

I concur.

I can re-do a clutch job in about 3 hours (a string of bad CM clutches :rant: ), so for me it's no big deal if I gotta do it again, but for most other people, you've already gone this far, and unless you've got a really special or low-mile clutch in there, just save yourself the potential hassle and replace it now.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I found my camera so I'll get a pic in a little while. I'm almost certain that my PP is doing that warping inward thing. The wearmarks on the surface of it and the clutch disk are slightly different around the inner diameter. Looks like I'll be heading to the classified sections after this.

I've dumped a ton into the car lately though, would I be able to get by keeping my clutch and using somebody else's good used PP so I can save some money? The clutch has been working fine. Doesn't really grab all that hard, but I've never had any slippage with it. If I don't find a relatively inexpensive solution in the next 2 or 3 days, I'll probably just put what I have back in for the time being. I don't mind doing another clutch job anyway.

Perhaps you can help me with a CM issue I've had ever since installation some couple of years ago.

Very simply, what causes a CM clutch (or another mfg's) to engage high despite a functional clutch adjuster?

And what can one do to resolve this issue?

Considering what body parts are in line with this object that spins to 7,000+ RPM, I wouldn't put anything suspect back on.

As I understand it from the Mad Scientist, the way CM modifies a PP when they rebuild one changes the height of the fulcrums and thus the moments of the PP spring.
