So here is my question.

I just bought a 93 and the drivers seat motor is bad. I need to replace the frame/motor assly. I also need to remove the old french fries etc... :)

The problem is, that with dead motors I can not move the seat to access the bolts. :madflame: Anyone have an idea of what way I could approach this. I think I can access the rear ones, but the front ones are very covered up.

I can not even get a wrench on the front ones. I am all kinds of confused. Any help would be much appreciated.

My best guess would be to sit in the seat and try to help it move....push back on the seat when trying to move it back and pulling it forward when trying to go forward. Maybe its just stuck. The '93 I just got, I had to help it move the first few times...I figured the owner before me didnt move the seat and so it got a little stuck...

Can hurt to try it...dont know if you have yet or not...

Thanks but I tried that. No dice.

Also, I wrote wrong in the first post. The front ones are out, the back ones are covered up. I was sitting upside down for too long.

Can you jump battery power directly to the seat motor? By reversing the jumpers you should be able to get the seat to move either forward or backward.

I can hear the motor try to "engage" or try to move. But it never moves an inch. I was looking at the other seat that is out. And there is an alan hole on the back of it. Like a sunroof motor. I am going to try and see if that moves the motor. I will post results. I am sure that this must have happened before.

Thanks for the replies so far. :salute:

After further review, I realized that they are just holes on the back of the motor. But, looking at the other seat again. I noticed that I can just undo the seat from the frame, and get the frame from the floor with the seat off. Amazing what not looking at something for 4 strait hours will allow you to figure out. :)

You may be able to unbolt the seat from the rack in the car. It's held on with 4 bolts that go up through the rack into the seat.

Thanks, that is what I am trying now. I still can not get this thing to get itself free. The bolts are out. The cushion is loose, but will not seperate. Who knows, there could be a diet coke holding this all togther. I had to take a break from it. I am tired of having my hands under this seat. I am ready to just buy a new seat and cut the cushion out. I am going crazy :bonk:

I think that is exactly what you are going to have to do. I was thinking about the same thing when my motor was dying. There is NO way to unbolt it when the seat is stuck all the way back. Personally, I say cut up or do whatever you have to to get a socket on those nuts, whatever is in the way have to come out, as long as you have another seat to put it. I can't think of any other advice to give you.

Slow Motor

I'm currently swapping parts to my '94 so i can sale my '93 SHO, then go buy another. My '94 middle seat motor can make a full front to back or vice versa, but can't make it both ways....she slows down to a crawl and then no more... front or back...give it a few minutues and she can go again. It acts kinda like a dead battery. Forget about any movement while sitting in seat. Tracks appear clean and i further lubed with Fluid Film, shaft is fine....i think the motor is just tired. the other two motors are fine...just the middle.

So....

Can I swap out the center motor only? (The 93 still has lots of life) I want to swap motors as the 94 seat track and seat itself is better. Is it as simple as removing the long armature screws and pull out the motor?

Some Tips

Well this ones right down my alley. I remember having the same problem with mine. It turned out to be the switch went bad. (Probably from people being to ******* it like they are on your vents or EATC) Anyways replaced the switch and viola!:sun:

To piggy back on that though, if your determined to take the seat out, and do get it out I can almost promise you, you'd be better off finding a new seat rather than trying to replace the motor in the old one (It just looks like a PITA!)

I remember going to the junkyard not to long ago, to get some seats out of a wrecked 95. It to had no power and passenger seat was stuck all the way back. Unlike the driver seat which was in the middle and took us all of 10 mins to get out the passenger seat was TUFF! We got a hold of a car battery and tried that, but it only let us move the seat up & down, not foward and back!

But yea, so basiclly we went with what we had, and made it happen ( A wide variety of sockets, wrenches & some WD-40)...It did take us 3 hours to get the pass seat out though, as compared to 10 mins for the driver. Hope this helps:thumb:

ok, i have not got around to the switch just yet, but i have read for some other switches, you can clean up the contacts. Can this be done on this particular switch? Best place to get a replacement? Sable or Slo's the same? Again can the armatures just be swapped if it is not the switch? Looks like six long screws - cake if it is a go. Thanks in advance!

I just got done with the front crank and cam seals....they were pretty hard and the smoke was embarrasing, not to mention the oil ***. Funny thigs is i just bought the '94 i did the seals on and there was a new cam belt in there...sheesh....good thing was i got it cheap, mainly due to the oil smoke!
