I'm wondering if anyone has replaced the power antenna on their SHO with something else? I fixed it once and it's already giving me trouble again. The power option just seems like one of those things that I can easily get along without. Aside from disconecting the power to it and leaving it up, what are my options? Any suggestions?

I have no use for my power antenna since I pulled my radio. The notched string broke before the convention. I have since replaced it. Shoot me an E-mail if you are interested in mine.

I put a fixed mast mount on mine and used a rubber shorty "Euro" antenna. It has better reception than the fixed mast.

Hey, thanks all for the replies.

SHOZ, I was thinking along the lines of the rubber shorty ...it's a pretty durable setup too, isn't that right?

Where did you get yours from? Any installation issues?

Got mine off of FleaBay. You will need a fixed mast mount and it looks a bit out of place with a chrome base and black antenna.

Funny that this thread popped back up. I recently decided to give the stock antenna setup another shot, so I just got done fixing up my own POS power antenna assembly. More precisely, I removed the assembly from the car, since I had the fender splash shield off for a front 60K anyway. I took the gear cover off the assembly and found a broken piece of the plastic strip under there which I removed. I cleaned all the dirt and old grease out and then re-lubed it all with a moderate dose of silicone grease.

I went to Pep Boys and tried to find a replacement mast for the a Ford Taurus but of course they didn't have anything. Not to be discouraged, I ended up getting a power mast replacement that is virtually identical to the one that I pulled off my SHO (Metra - GM - #CK-PWRGM301). And get this ...it's supposed to be a direct OEM replacement for a '93-'96 Corvette! I have installed the mast into the assembly and tested it by applying 12v directly to the wire harness, and reversing the leads to make it go up and down, as necessary. Seeming fits and works great. shrug

So I reinstalled the assembly, put the splash shield back on, and as soon as I put a new stereo in my SHO I will know for sure how it all works out in the real world. :D (But I'm pretty confident everything will be OK wink )
