2011TAURUSSEL
2014 SHO LMS Stage 1 V10
A little afternoon project today. Materials sheet of 3M Carbon Fiber wrap from Amazon. 60X12 it sounds thin but center console a 8" wide section should work and that will allow you to fold over. Fairly simple process and of course not complete yet. I still need the forward part of the console but I think all in all a good start. A slight wrinkle on the rear section but 1. will be covered up by the center console lit latch. 2. I want to make sure I have enough film for the entire vehicle including the door trim pieces. If not then I will order another sheet than I can probably correct then. If not then 3....Refer to #1 covered by center console lid latch.
Process. 1. Open console lid. 2. Starting at rear on each side remove the outer trim panel the leather piece where the engine start button and trunk release is located. Pull from rear and set aside. The trunk release can be disconnected and set aside. 3. Remove the four attaching bolts (7mm) and slowly raise center cup holder assembly. 4. Disconnect the Ambient Lighting connector (if Equipped) 5. Remove console assembly from vehicle. 6. Clean upper assembly ( I used a 409 a mild general purpose cleaner) wipe clean and dry. Wipe dry of dust and measure the piece Should measure about 10x8 (Inches) 8 Wide and 10 long
Start at the forward edge of the cup holder lid Allowing approximately 1/4 inch overlap to fold under measure approximately 10 inches back that should allow approximately 1/4 inch overlap. The trick is you will need 1 inches of overlap it is cut as one piece for now but will eventually be two pieces. 1/4 inch overlap Front and Rear AND Both Sides. The rear section will need about 1/4 inch front and rear overlap.
With me so far 1 " overlap to fold under.....1/2 console lid section 1/4 Front and 1/4 Rear. 1/2 Rear section 1/4 front and 1/4 rear.
When you get the front section measured and fitted cut evenly. Cut the length of the lid plus 1/2 inch The remainder should be the length of the rear part plus 1/2 inch.
Take the front section and slowly apply wrap center on the lid remember the 1/4 inch on all sides to fold under. Apply smoothly and work out any air bubbles as you apply. You might have to make small relief cuts on the corners to prevent the wrap bunching over on itself. If it will make it easier go ahead and make the corner cuts during initial measuring before the backing paper comes off.
You will need something very narrow but maybe with a small hook on the bottom. Close the lid and slowly wrap the rear overlap under the lid. The sides and front are easy but the rear section of the front lid will be tight due to the blind spot.
There will be a small raised spot on the front lid that is the chrome trim handle for the lid. That is fine when installed I slowly and with a clean sharp blade cut the two grooves left-right. Slowly cut and once you get the grooves cut you will eventually get to the corners. Slowly cut around corners and with the tip of knife blade grab the remaining piece of wrap that covers the chrome trim piece and remove.
Repeat for rear section but OPENING the lid might make folding under the forward section easier.
DONT GORGET ABOUT THE 1/4" OVERLAP FOR EACH SIDE.
Stretch the wrap over the entire section. Don't worry about the SYNC data plate and latch opening. When stretched tight and air bubbles worked out along with the rear overlap it will look weird. The rear section flares in leave the material stretched in a square. Make a relief cut on the flared in rear section and fold over excess material Make a "X" cut in the center of the latch opening slowly fold under excess wrap material
Last step is the SYNC data plate. Same steps as the Chrome trim piece of the forward cup holder lid but a little easier for two reasons. 1. Data plate is a larger piece of material and more surface area to work with 2. Plate is Square instead of oval so four easily identifiable corners,
When installed although it doesn't look it I would say a 99 or 100% match with the shade of Carbon Fiber of the Instrument panel.
Total Time roughly 30 minutes for today.
