Are you trying to replace the power antenna mast? I believe your supposed to pull it out while the motor is pushing the mast up. To install is the opposite.

There is a hex nut still in there.
Typically a deep socket is used over top the retracted antenna shaft.
Use a tubing cutter on the shaft to shorten so you can use a socket.

THank you Kevin, I thought that's what I saw, but then I thought it was a washer surrounded by rubber.

Are you trying to remove the mast or the whole thing? At this point, just go under the fender liner and remove the unit from the bottom and figure it out from there.

I'm just tryin to replace the mast, cause I'm sure ...pretty sure that the plastic snake that goes through the center is broken off. I'll probably have to go in anyway because the remainder is probably wrapped up inside the antennae motor, Thanks for your replies,

I understood that. but the motor doesn't push the mast up and never did since I bought the car, it was frozen in up position. You can hear the motor turning to push it up and turning to retract it, but it never moves/d. So...judging from what I read, the plastic snake was broken off a long time ago. The confusing thing to me is that every one describes pulling it out, well, as you saw, it won't pull out. The nut you taught me about is out. I tried in what would be the motor up and the motor down and as in the vid. the shaft wont' pull out. It acts like there is a nut holding it on the inside, but no one describes such a thing. It may be just "time welded" after who knows, ten or more years . If we...when we..have spring. I'll have to take out the wheel well plastics and take off the motor and then I'll see why the **** it won't "pull out" like everyone describes it doing. I might go down in the shaft well with a hook pic kinda tool and see if I can scrape off crud that is perhaps holding something, But again , in the vid you can see what looks like a brass ring at the bottom of the shaft, I'm guessing that that is just damn stuck in the after too much time. I'll try again with the PB again when the snow storm ends here. We're supposed to get snow all day tomorrow. Thanks for your ideas and replies...
The more I think about it, I think I just gotta add more PB and keep working it up and down...maybe get a thin screw driver and knock around at the bottom to break it loose. I'm thinking it just need more pulling, working it, it will turn 360 with no resistance to speak of, so I think now, that the sleeve around the staff is just time welded to the inner diameter of where if goes through that grey aluminum piece comin through the body ***.

So here's the lowdown on the power antennas… From what I found out today. There's lots of places where they say you kinda just take off the nut inside the well, and pull out the old antenna out and stick in the new one. Well that ain't going to work with these antennas. As far as I can tell. I pulled until I was all pulled out. So to speak. And it never came out ..I mean the antenna. Sorry,,,You have to remove the unit from the car and take it out of the shaft from underneath. It doesn't come out of the top because there's a lip that catches and keeps it from coming out. I suppose if you pulled hard enough to bend that lip, it's chrome you might get it to come out but I'm sure you would damage something in the process.
So you have to pull the antenna shaft out of its holder from underneath. And you have to load in the white plastic stringer into the gear by hand and use a little bit of power to call it into the motor and wrap up, because you're not going to be able to do that with the motor already installed in the car the way some video show it working for some other cars. I'd love to see a video of someone installing a sho power antenna from outside the car with the motor and housing mounted on the car.
