Hey guys, I just ordered some replacement grilles for the V and was wondering where I could get them powdercoated locally. One of the V owners already has blacked out grilles on his black V and they look incredible. I could always send them to where he had his done, but I was looking for someplace around here.

Anybody know? Also, the grilles are actually not metal mesh, they are a plastic. So it would have to be somebody that can do plastic. Any help would be great.

I know a guy in Fall River that does powdercoating. Good prices too. He does rims for 50$ per wheel so Im sure you could get your job done for cheap.

EDIT: I dont think you can powdercoat plastic. When the powder finish is applied, it goes in a very hot oven so the finish is baked on. Plastic would just melt. Maybe Im wrong?

Yeah, Bell's Powdercoating. Don't bother.

Agawam MA: New England Custom Coaters, ask for Rick.

You can also talk to Paul F, he set up for coating after buying my blower car - he's the guy with the -V also.

So... I guess just set your oven to 250, and see if the peices melt?? How are you supposed to know what plastic can withstand what kind of heat? Hmm.. I guess you could just go by the strength and flexibility of it.

if you could find out the type of plastic, its simple to look up, as for knowing if a grille will melt or not... i dunno. why not take the plastic off, paint it, powdercoat the netal, and then put it back together?or even better replace the plastic with metal mesh of the same type, and powdercoat everything

as long as the plastic doesnt melt at 250F, yes.

250F ?? Our summers are almost that hot.

I called 3 places that powdercoat and all said that their ovens are set to 600-700 degrees. I'm having my subframe powdercoated now.

As an aside, you could take the part to an aircraft refinisher and have a coat of Imron put on it, very expensive though.

I got my wheel done for $30 Canadian each, so anything over that I wouldn't consider a bargain ;)

As for coating plastic, my powder coater's oven is set to 550 degrees, I've never heard of a place that set theirs at under 400, so I'm skeptical as to whether it can be done or not.

I can get you Remanufactured Slicers (or get yours redone) for $178 each (full retail, add $50 for a core charge if you get new ones Less if you re-do your wheels) all the wheels are media blasted, hot tanked, repaired, re-machined to tolerances and powder coated. for you guys in Northern VT, PM me, and for the other guys in NE, contact you local Keystone Automotive location (there's one in Taunton MA, Portland ME, Bedford NH and Albany NY.. there's some other ones in the northeast as well but I can't remember them all)

Sorry if I sound like an ad for the company I work for but if you guys need new OEM wheels let me know.

Medication time. The V has a metal mesh grille. So anyone can do it. I'll call N.E. Custom Coaters this week. Thanks for the input, guys.
