I'm looking at a 2013 SHO with 123k miles on her. The seller is asking $13,800. I'm new to the whole SHO thing, so what do I need to look at to make sure it is a solid car? I have asked for the CarFax, it has had two owners. Is the seller asking too much or just about right? Would it be worth getting it with this kind of mileage on it? Should I expect something to fail on me in short order?
If there are posts that cover this already, point me to them.
Thanks!

you have to consider the maintenance that has been adn needs to be done. Around this mileage and age at some point timing set and water pump replacement is about due. The PTU needs maintenance fluid replacement and everything else that is original is a possible replacement candidate. THere are many many threads about these items so read up a little and see what to look at for this platform. It is a 10 yr year old car with lots of extra moving parts vs a traditional natrually aspirated front or rear wheel drive vehicle.

I second Luigi's comments and building off of them, according to KBB that model year, is ranging between 10,300 and 13,800 depending on condition.

So in the pocket for asking price, albeit on the highest end(s) of the pricing range(s).

If you need a CarFax report on it, DM me the VIN and I can check what history is on it.

GL w/the potential purchase.

They are fun cars, but do tend to require a more severe/stringent maintenance schedule. Even more so than what is stated in the owner's manual.

So if that approach wasn't embraced by the seller/previous owner, then yes, you're likely on the cusp of having to replace some bigger ticket items at that mileage.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the responses. Obviously, I will do the normal checks I would do for any used car and check the diffs, as well.
I wonder if the timing chain is any more difficult than the one on a Mini. I did one of those recently.

If the water pump is still stock, replace timing with all new parts and new water pump, it's not impossible job to do yourself, a dealer will give you a 3yr 36k warranty if they do the work. The wheel bearings are at the end of life too with that mileage. Besides the small things these cars are highly rated for safety and well known for hitting 200,000 miles with regular maintenance. Spend a few thousand and that car should give you a lot of years of enjoyment.

Well since the timing chain was done by you then you are ahead of the game in doing maintenance on your own vehicle. So more power more wear, turbos are a wear item, rotating ptu, rear diff, and t ran ny need to be maintained, etc. It is just more stuff to wear out or break and if you are aware and unfazed by DIY, then this could be a great platform for you.

Dude, that's 3k more than I paid for mine 5 years ago with less miles. Granted, the market is still a little nuts. If they can't show documentation of work done and you really want it, offer less. Got any pics of the car? Engine bay? Are there existing mods?

I wouldn't touch it for more than $8500.

I agree. 13.8k is pretty steep. Geez.

Agree its high even in today's market. Mine had 93K and I paid about 10.5K for it 3 yrs ago. I'll hit 130K today. Definitely a fun ride though - every day! Good luck negotiating.

That would be awesome to find the original owner on this thread to get all the maintenance history! I have a '13 with 64k miles, and based on what I've seen selling on autotrader, these are still getting good value with the chip issue lingering, high interest rates and generally steep prices for new cars.
