I have a 90. ever since i can remember sometimes when i made corners like into a parking lot there was a load thud from one side of the car. recently i was leaving work and i mad a right and heard seemingly the same noise (thud!) but much loader followed by the car joulting.like i was trying to start on 4th gear or something. i managed to drive the car home. i had to ride the heck(sorry) out of the clutch and keep the revs up. my immediate guess was a broken halfshaft???? I tried diagnosing it by jacking both sides up nd letting her spin 1st. one side seemed to move faster(right side)while the other was very slow and if you stopped it it had a hard time restarting? however I don't know if this is normal for this transaxle. any input is much appreciated thank..

Trust me, when an axle goes, it goes, you won't get any movement at all from it. In fact, you'll just sit there since the open differential will send power to the side with least resistance, the side that has a piece of axle in the trans.
I'm not really sure what could be causing your problem right now.

well since denny dont believe its the axel try some things like take it apart and play with ball joints and check your steering linkage. im sure playing around you will find something. if you dont find anything i'd say check the trans. it might be internally

the jolting part would not fit my proposal but the knock your talkign abotu could have been a broekn subframe. Maybe it was jolting because the front end was so out of alignment??? Not realyl sure jsut a guess.

It's possible that if the brake isn't binding up, the wheel bearing is seizing/ seized. Seized wheel bearings can make some pretty unholy noises.

Ask me how I know.

Whatever it is it's a pretty serious problem. A broken axle would have made the car undrivable, but sounds like whatever it is it should be easily diagnosed with the car on a lift and a bit of troubleshooting.

I wheel bearing issue would make sense because i know they're bad the car usually squeeks. but it seems like the wheel shouldn't turn at all if you put it up on jack stands and run it??? maybe not Ill do some more checking tommarrow. see what i can find. dows anyone know if its natural for the one side to turn faster? yea i definately need to check the SF I remember now impacting on one of the bolts and it squished he heck out of the bushing i wonder if the bushing is still present...

yeah id say wheel bearing... i shoulda guessed that because i had that happen to me before... the brake stuck and the rim caught fire (on my old GL) and it fried the bearing and it was really bad driving it home to fix.
