porting my intake

ok so i want to get this extra intake ported but i have never had this done before. are there any specific instructions that i would need to give my machine shop? or will they just know whats up and how to do it?

You can open up the runners all you want, but if you don't touch the ports on the heads, you'll have a nasty little ledge where the intake bolts on. Common thing to do is a gasket match on the ports.

gasket match?

It means to match the ports of the intake and the head to gaskets so you can ensure their is the most amount of air flow possible going through the intake and heads. In stock form the intake and heads pretty good but their is always room for improvement, The intake exit size is really close the intake of head but if you Port the intake then the intake is now larger than the head so you most ALSO port the intake of the head to allow the air to flow SMOOTHLY into the head.

But when done right it makes a sweet car that runs like a CHAMP. I have a ported intake and heads and Big bore butterflies and the thing just pulls SO hard till the 7500 rev limit.

I guess you could take it to a machine shop, but I would just do it myself. I did it with my dremel and a combo of sanding drums and flapper wheels. Just use the old intake gasket as a template for the gasket matching. I used the sanding drums to remove the bulk of the material and then the flapper wheel for the finishing work. For the head ports I just did the opening and then blended it back an inch to smooth the transition. To keep the metal out of the head I covered all the ports except the one I was doing. I then used half a rolled up shop rag in the port I was working on and uses some of my kids playdoh on top of the rag to completely seal it.

I'm sure my job wasnt quite as good/extensive as the porting that SHoSource does. I just like to try and do what I can myself.

Also, make sure you wear a mask...aluminium dust is not good for you.
