This morning on my way home from work I depressed the clutch to change gears as I ws coming to a stop light. When I did this I hear a popping noise. I lifted the pedal and depressed it again and it acted normal. Still had 10 miles more to go to get home. Checked the clutch a few more times on the way home and once again all seemed normal.

Fast forward about an hour, I had to go get my GF from work. So I get in the car to leave and it feels like the pedal is lower. Now to go into some detail.

Like my sig says I have a SPEC stage II, which is suppose to be an on/offish clutch. Which it always has been kinda, but it was always a very high release on the clutch. The clutch would stay depressed until about the last 1/2 inch of pedal movement then it would engage during that last 1/2 inch which is pretty on/off.

Now it acts the same, but as I said the pedal now feels lower and instead of the pedal engaging in the last 1/2 inch at the very top of the release it now engages very close to the floor.

There is no slippage or anything, drives just fine, just now the pedal is closer to the floor. I always had thought maybe the adjustent was off before even though I tried adjusting it because like I said the pedal would come way up and it really shouldn't. Anyways, any input would be great.

That is really strange. Mine still engages at the last 1/2 inch. It only has about 5k on it tho.

If the "pop" was from the transaxle, then it sounds like my last clutch when the pressure plate springs were worn at the contact point with the throwout bearing. Each "pop" was accompanied by a stiffness to the pedal an ws the act of another pressure plate spring tip breaking off. The wear was from the TOB slipping against the PP by not keeping the clutch cable properly tensioned. This is required every 5000 miles by the owner's manual.

If the "pop" was from under the dash, it could be the pawl on the blue plastic "quadrant" has skipped a few teeth. The lift of the pedal should have returned the pedal to the original engagement point.

How does the clutch pedal motion feel? Is it smooth or is there a roughness felt when depressing the pedal? That would be a problem between the TOB and pressure plate springs.
