Chris,
They're overpriced but I love mine. I saw one on ebay a day or two ago. They have several horizontal slots on either side of the Ford badge on the grille. Check out http://www.alfitz.com He just got in a GenI with a police grille. Look for a mocha Gen I with rear end damage and the front bumper missing. As a matter of fact, why not ask how much he wants for it if you're interested?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the police grills were originally designed/installed on the Gen I SHOs. Developed for the police Tauri to assist with cooling of the engine.

Al Fitz asks for $200 plus shipping on any police grill that they get. As of last week, he wasn't sure if he'd sell the one off of the Mocha 91. Best bet to get a decent priced one is from a salvage yard that doesn't know the ebay value! FWIW, I'm still trying to find that salvage yard!

That may be correct, although I have seen a SHO used as a State Police car in PA back when I was in college (the first time). SHO's were a new item back then too.

They are cool, however very overpriced. I would make one out of fiberglass before I spent $200 on one! I encourage everybody in the market for one of these to just take their time and shop around for the best deal. It is the incessant demand that keeps the prices of the used grill pieces high. If everybody just played it cool, eventually the sellers would pay us to take those things off their hands. Well, maybe not, but the prices would drop to something within reason.

Shoot, maybe somebody should send me a police grill so I can go into business selling fiberglass replicas while I wait for a real job, LOL!

The so-called Police grill was a part of the HD Cooling package that could be ordered on any Taurus. Police cars and taxis tended to have them, but I also used to see a fair number of garden-variety Tauri with them also. You "may" have some luck finding one in a boneyard, although Gen 1 Tauri are starting to get rare and have probably been crushed by now.

They do look good, though. After having one on my '89, a regular Gen 1 centerpiece looked pretty bland!

alfitz wants serious money for the grill. $250...ouch! I e-mailed him yesterday for a quote.

I would love to have a spare one but that is a tad steep.

I drooled at the polcie grille for a month after I got my car.

There was a burgundy Taurus GL I had seen around town with one (this is back in Colorado) and one day I saw his car in front of the small independent used car place near our house. I offered the guy at the used car place cash just for the grille... he said that the car wasn't his, it was actually abandoned! I went and checked it out, people has already taken battery, power window switches, and the passenger seat.

I woke up at 5 AM next morning went out, and got myself a new grille. Free of charge. All it's window's were open and it had already rained hard and had sat there a few days. I am comfortable with the assumption that the owner wasn't coming back anytime soon.

I guess I just got lucky...

Ease your guilty conscience. Send your ill-gotten police grill to me.

Heh, tough chance, sorry man. If you ever make it up to Santa Rosa you should look me up.

Or maybe just goto a Bracket night at Sears Point Raceway? or Infineon or whatever it's called now... I never see any SHO's there frown
