I am slowly working at resurrecting my 89 which I bought new in 1989, and which has 218,000 miles on it, and need a bit of advice from this group of experienced SHO lovers. Can I still get Motorcraft plug wires anywhere (I can't seem to find them) and if not, who makes the best alternative? I see that RockAuto has two different Delco sets, 9466A and 16826Q. Is either of those a good choice? Thanks...

I have not seen Motorcraft wires for some time, since Ford starts discontinuing parts only 10 years after production ceases for a particular item. My experience is that virtually any of the wire sets will be fine. fyi, the atx wires are slightly different length due to alternate mounting of the coil packs, but you can use the atx wires on mtx, while the mtx wires are really short for atx usage.

FWIW, I have the Delco wires on my 89. I went cheap and got some good used ones off a forum member that crashed his car. They are fine and are gray, so they look like the OE ones.

...and he lives near me. I live in the suburb of the city where he is. Hoping he and I can meet up and talk cars or something, help each other out on parts and repairs, etc. I've never seen his car around town.

My opninion. The AC Delco wires that are sold on Rock Auto are really good wires. Good fit and everything.
And ill cut a limb off before i buy anything from RCM again..

I've been running these for about 10,000 with no problems great fitment and OEM quality. The sheeth is at least 10mm so it will fit in all the stock routing clips. Found them online for about $90.00 if I remember correctly. (fit both ATX or MTX)

I'm on my 3rd set of AC Delco wires and they are great. The construction and fit is as close to the factory originals as I have found. They even have the same spiral outer wrap as the factory wires.

i was having a REALLY rough running car so i did some searching here and decided since i was on a budget to try the Accel plug wires. Great fit, car runs awesome now. 1990 by the way.
I would definitely use them again on my other sho's. I couldn't find the AC Delco here locally.

One tip I found on RockAuto is using the filter option, using SHO as filter, will clear out some multiple listings. Checking on RockAuto, the wires that are tagged for the SHO are part# 16826Q. Hope this helps.

Yep, my bad, 16826Q is the right one. There's one below it that I chose by mistake because the picture looked the same. 16826Q specifies SHO though.
I had the same trouble looking for wires the local ford dealer had one set in their computer that they located in michigan I think they wanted $400+ WTF I know that they are rare and all but come on...I went with the taylor thundervolt 8.2 good fit and all got them at SHOsource!!!

For the economy minded owners, I bought a set of plug wires from Advance Auto for around $50.00. They had an unusual trade name like X-act Fit.
Put them on a year ago, fit was perfect, and no issues with the performance.
On the other hand, prior to this, I bought a set of Taylor wires that seemed great until I opened the hood one night and was treated to a light-show. Returned them and got all the money back, but the issue of installation was a far greater hardship as the intake had to come off for the second time. The odd thing was the second set worked fine, and is still in service after 5 years.

Dont remember what wires i went with. Whatever autozone had at the time. 2 years later and 30k+ miles and no complaints.
