Plug Wires

I am agonizing over what to do with my plug wires. At first I though if it wasn't missing, I could leave them alone. But some gifted ad-man wrote that new wires are recommended for vehicles that failed an e-test with high HC readings.

I have looked in the listings and the Ford ones claim that the same wires that fit the SHO also fit the 89 to 95 Taurus LX and GL, and a 95 SE, and 89 to 92 Ls. What gives?

I have currently narrowed it down to Bosch and Shosource, but the near $20.00 a wire still makes me wonder. The Bosch have a great ad and so does ShoSource.
There are some tempting wires for less money, but the multiple models scare me. Anybody use these less fashionable wires?

Anybody have any feedback on what they have installed lately that is working out.

Are you 100% positive this will make you pass? HC can be a number of different things.

No, I am not even 50% sure they are the problem. But I am going to have the intake off and I don't know the history of these existing wires, but I am betting they are the original wires.
I am going to do plugs, wires, O2 sensors, new filter, and get a retest.
If it fails then, anything else will be over $450.00 (like cats) so I may apply for the conditional pass, but I am not at that point yet.

Make sure they are running the car when it's a full operating temps.

Retard the timing and then have them do a test to see if it will pass. We(when I inpsected) use to do that to the old Caddy's when it came time for emissions after they failed. Worked like a champ

Don't get cheap wires I've tryed a few and they fall apart like crazy . The boot and wire pull right off the first time you go to change plugs . Get a quality set from somewhere that list SHO specific wires like SHO source .

Compared to stock Ford units the Taylor wires are cheap. The Taylor wires are thicker and have less resistance compared to the Bosch units.

The SHO wires are unique to the SHO only.
