I posted earlier about not being able to turn my car off. Here's what I found out, I put a new cylinder in and it didn't fix anything, what happens is when the cylinder is at the acc. position, I can use the ignition key to go through all the positions and start the car but the mechanism or whatever is used by the ignition cylinder to pull the peg on the switch back is apparrently not turning the switch off. I looked in the little sight hole and saw the rod that goes from the ignition cylinder to the switch moving when I turned the key both ways but it will not pull the peg back to turn the power off. Please help, I'm not sure on where to start. Anyone can start my car and I need to get it fixed soon.

You need to take the column shroud off and look at the actual ignition switch, not the ignition lock cylinder. I might just need some lubrication.

I have both the upper and lower column shrouds off and I'm currently using the ignition switch to start and turn off my car. The ignition switch is the tan box that has the peg I push to start my car and also I pull it back to turn it off. My problem is the rod or whatever is used by the cylinder to push and pull on the peg of the switch. I just don't know... frown

Is the rod bent? Or is the ignition switch too worn to allow the rod to pull the plunger enough?

Here's what I know, I installed a brand new ignition cylinder and it did not fix the problem. As for the ignition switch being bad, what would actually go bad on it, the little peg? But since I can start my car like it is, that should rule out the rod, right? What would cause it start push to the start but not engage the other positions? I'm not familiar with the inside of that housing, so it could be a piece of the rod is broken and not pulling the switch back? I'm not sure.
