Hello all,,,,, if anyone can help me with this i will be both happy and suprised because this problem has stumped the best of them....

well it all started with shifting being very diffucult... it would grind into reverse and and be very diffucult to get into gear,,,, so i brought it to the mechanic and his suggestion was a new clutch,,,, he said that it was slipping and that it was not stopping the fly wheel,,,,, whatever that means, anyhow he replaced the clutch and the car ran fine for about 2 days,,,, and then shifting gradually became very hard again, does anyone have any idea what this problem could be, thanks in advance.

The guy that owned mine before, it was the clutch and pressure plate, the fingers were really tired out, but it's possible to be that just your clutch it out of adjustment, give a pull up on the clutch and see if it clicks and makes it any easier to get in gear. Possible also to be that your clutch cable is streched past what that adjuster quadrant thing can handle.
In that case, get a friend to help you, use a little pry bar or something just to take some load off the clutch fork (mabye a half inch to start) on top of the tranny, then while he's doing that, give the cluch a yank upwards, let go, then he can get out of there and try that.
That's all I know.

does it pop out of gear? if so, you needed to have the tranny rebuilt. my car did this and the tranny looked like a grenade went off in it.

the reason? a mechanic told me that since it was a sealed unit, you don't have to change the transmission fluid. well, after 105,000 miles, the fluid was like black water with no viscosity. the solution, drill a drain plug and change it every 20,000 miles/.

if it does not pop out of gear and you do not hear a "rubbing" sound when driving in gear, it could be the clutch cable quadrant. they are prone to break and slip. cheap fix.

see ya,

i dont know why no one elses sho doesent have a tranny drain plug,,,, mine does and the mechanic said that it is stock,,,, he said that there would never be a transmission without a drain bolt,,,,, mine has a drain bolt,,, and a filler hole about 3 inches above it.

anyway,,, no it doesent pop out of gear,,,, its just very difficult to shift,,,, anyhow,,, at this point the mechanic has started removing the transmission from the car and he is going to have to take it all apart to find out what the problem is,,,,, if that doesent fix it im going to donate the car to the american army,,, and get them to drop it in Afganastan and drop a few bombs on it. at least then i can say that i won the battle with the car

there is no set drain plug for the MTX-IV per say. I've found a plug that will get a decent amount of the fluid out, but not all. As Mark Nunally was saying, the plug I have found connects the shift gate to the transmission housing, and if that is the one he used and touched the shifter while it was unbolted, he could have very well separated the gate, making it float around and not let you shift easily. Try the clutch cable first though.

good info. i'd say one of these two things is your problem. first check the quadrant. if not, he might have moved the gate.

when nick chrimes rebuilt my tranny, he drilled a plug. he said that they are usually bled through the hole you are talking about, but if someone moves the shifter while the bolt is off, it puts the tranny out of wack.

see ya,
