Hello all! I'm currently looking into getting a SHO (don't have one as of yet) and this seems like the place to look for great advice on these cars. I'm looking at the Gen4 (10-15) and it would have to be used. I'm 21 and stationed in Albuquerque NM with the Air Force. I want something that'll be a little bit cheaper than my current car for both payments and insurance (possibly mpg as well) while still maintaing good performance with aftermarket capabilities. I've always like the SHO and heard good things about the new one. I currently have a 2012 Lava Red Coyote, 6M with a couple bolt ons. I've found a couple 2010-11s for around the 20 range with 30k+ miles (Mustang has nearly 26k miles), which I would think is a great deal. Just wondering how the cars hold up, how they pull, can they keep up with/out run the SS, SRT8 and Coyotes, how they perform with bolt ons (LMS tune I've seen is highly regarded) and just overall would it be worth it to move from a Coyote to a SHO. And is there a large aftermarket for them? Specifically would like around the 450 AWHP range due to the sheer size of the car, how strong are the motor/tranny, how upgradable is the suspension/brakes, ect? Only suspension stuff I've found are springs. I apologize for this super long post, just want to do my research before I decided on trading in or selling the Mustang. I really appreciate it, and I'm sorry again. Cheers!

A taste of summarized info:

  1. Be aware of the TSBs out there for the MY you are looking at.
  2. 450 WHP is possible, but you will likely have to have methanol injection along with tune, CAI, gapped plugs, 3-bar MAP, downpipes, etc. Kind of the outer limit for easy boltons.
  3. Turbo piping should be tightly clamped, and be ready to change out the PTU fluid since you won't know the SHO's driving history. Get new plugs.
  4. Coilovers are available for '10-'12, '13+ still in the works
  5. Aftermarket is not nearly as large for SHO as for Mustang, simply due to sheer numbers involved
  6. There are some options for the brakes, most use EBC or PowerStop or StopTech.

Thanks for the info! I'll definitely be looking into the TSBs. The main reason I was looking at the 450 range is because I have two friends who own 14 WRXs, I can destroy them now, just wanting to be able to still compete with them. From what that said the PP isn't necessary but I would think that it would be better to have the stouter gears when running bolt ons. Is there a specific tranny fluid that y'all prefer? As for the plugs, does anyone have and exp with LMS plugs? I was looking at their whole package (CAI, Downpipes, Thermo, Plugs, and tune) for 1700 (would need to keep cats for emissions), just wondering if y'all had any experience with that. My main thing is that I want a car that'll still handle, be quick on its feet (seen the vid of the LMS tune only car beat a 2011 Coyote) so I dont think that'll be an issue though. I appreciate it again!!
