1995 sho blown tranny:

plans are to have the shop pull my old tranny, and and clutch and flywheel and replace the rear mail seal. I want them to change the rod bearings, and then reasemble with the tranmission I rebuilt and a new tranny mount and pinch bolts, and aluminum subframe bushings and new bolts.

can anyone think of anything else I should have them do while the subframe and oil pan are down, I have a minimum of cash so I can't afford to do springs or struts, or any thing rediculusly expensive.

thanks, any ideas are appreciated

I can understand having the shop that is doing the tranny R&R replace the rear main seal and carrier gasket, but honestly if you could rebuild a tranny yourself, you could certainly do the rod bearings on your own, and probably at a fraction of the cost.

Since they will have the subframe and y-pipe out, you should have no problem dropping the y-pipe to pull the pan and do the bearings. Should cost you less than $100 to do yourself.

You don't mention having the flywheel machined or replacing the clutch. Are you at least having the flywheel done? If you're re-using your old clutch, you should at least replace the TOB and quill sleeve.

sorry yea the quill sleeve and TOB are being changed. and about 3,000 miles before I shot the diff pin throught the tranny case I had a new clutch put in I didn't have the flywheel cut at that time since it was in good shape and since I have worn the clutch in on that wheel I figure it wouldn't be prudent to cut it now.
I am sure I could do it all but it took me almost a year to get the time to do the tranny and find all the peices and I am tired and ready to have the car back so its worth paying some one else to do it. I also have a decent mechanic who is fair about the hours he puts in to the cars. I figure it should cost me around $500 for just the labour, and I need probably another $120 in parts I have bought already.

had an Idea should I have them change the ball joints while they are there or only if they are bad?
