Pingy noise when starting car?!?

when i start my 1994 ATX, as it turns over there is a loud pinging noise, i know it can't be good and its becoming more prevolent, can anyone diagnose the problem??

Rod bearings are a strong possibility. Chain tensioners as well.

It is so hard to hear noises over the internet. Can you be more descriptive?

Scott- when i start up the car and as it turns over it s apingy noise, almnost like a ring of a bell or a piece of metal running over another piece of metal very fast, buts its intermittent so its kinda tough to diagnose

Rod bearings - Every car that I have heard start up with worn rod bearing reminds me of the rattling of a shaken can of spray paint. That's until the oil pressure comes up and fills the voids, ceasing the rattling. Cat's would be the old broom stick method. thumbs_u
I have not heard a SHO motor with worn/spun rod bearings - just a half dozen hondas, chevys and mitsubishis amoung other makes and models.
