I've read all of the archived posts but still have questions. Other than finding a used intermediate shaft connected to an intact pillow block bearing, what are my options? Also, does anyone know of a SHO that's being parted out that I might be able to obtain this part from? Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like you found your tranny problem. To bad the part is very hard to find. Call some local boneyards-ya never know.

Jason, yeah sadly I think I did. It's better than having something break inside the tranny though. Do you think this could have put a damaging load on the halfshaft/inboard cv joint causing the shaft to break free of the joint?

Only way to know is to pull it and find out. If it popped out the splines could very well be shot. The teeth on the tranny are made of hard metal then the metal of the shaft causing metal shavings in the tranny.

If the above is true you will need the int. shaft and I would drain the tranny and put fresh ATF in it. Consider yourself very lucky that it is not the tranny.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough about what pulled out. The intermediate shaft stays inside the transmission, not well, but it does. What popped out was the half shaft from the inner cv joint. After replacing the whole halfshaft/cv joint part, i noticed that the pillow block was torn and that the intermediate shaft could be easily taken out of the transmission. I am wondering if the "float" that the broken pillow block allows, put some stress on the inner cv joint/halfshaft union.

Also, the search for a new intermediate shaft/pillow block bearing is an interesting one. I found one source with a brand new one for ~$300, I don't think I'll be going that route, hehe. I've been calling salvage yards and I think I've got a lead on one.

Well, let's publish that bad boy's name & contact info, so that others who can't find what you need have the info. thumb

It might be expensive, but at least someone will have an out next time, seeing as you've already done the legwork on the search...

I doubt that one for $300 is even the correct one. When mine went a few years ago,i used resources i got from Nick Chrimes to hunt one down.I found about 7,after some calls,i found only 2 had them in stock. After one wrong one sent to me,i beleive i had bought the last one in the country,it ran for $93.Unfortunately,used ones are the only real option now,and who knows how long they will even last.Because the braketry on them are specific to the SHO,i don`t think one can be "easily" made, and won`t be found off another car.

The part number I requested from Bowman Ford (701-523-3257) in North Dakota was: E6DZ-3K093-B. The gentleman confirmed that he has one in stock. Look at Josh's part number and Ford retail ($334.52) price.

Fred, I'm not trying to jump ship on your offer, just trying to find one locally and maybe get a bargain.

The passenger side halfshaft are not retained in the inner CV joint. It is retained by a clip on the end of the shaft at the outer CV assembly. If you remove the inner CV boot, both sides pull out with no resistance.

The driver side inner CV hub (part that enters the tranny) is retained by a clip on the end of it's shaft. The passenger side extended shaft, though, does not. It depends on the pillow-block bearing to keep it in the tranny.

I wonder how long it will be before someone spec's this bearing and checks to see if anything else will fit.

Whoa!I can`t beleive it went from $93 to over $300 in just 2 years.I guess they realized the part was obsolete.

SHOck-it`s not just a bearing. It`s a pillow bearing with a bracket built into it to bolt specifically to the SHO.It`s can`t be cross referenced from any other car.
