I want to put some seperates in, but not sure where to put tweeters. Does anyone have pics of an install with some that aren't in kick panels? Is there a pod that would fit up in the corner by the rearview mirrors?

Mine are in the dash, where the 3.5" stockers would be. I could take pics, but there really isn't much to see with the stock grilles on. This is on a Gen I.

There isnt in the Gen2. I have mine at the top of the pillars. I like them being there as it gives the car a more surround sound, just not coming from the bottom. I can get pictures when I get back from work.

I made these for a friend of mine. They match the interior now too. The tweeter mounting cup has been molded onto the sail panel with fiberglass. If I did it again, I'd try using liquid plastic.

I have mine mounted on the door itself, so that when it closes, it's at the base of the A-Pillar.

I have a Gen II and I flush mounted mine on the black backing plate right behind the interior door handle. It blends in perfectly and it seems to have better imaging than when I had them surface mounted at the base of the A-pillar.
I took some pictures but my camera sux and you cant see them very well.
(which was the whole idea in the first place after my last system was stolen)

I found out you can get tweeter mounts that allow you to aim the tweeters, so I might get those and put them in the corner where the tweeters picture above are mounted...on the door.

Doesn't putting them behind the handle affect the sound? That's an interesting idea though, my only other idea was to just mount the on the door next to the handle towards the rear of the car.

If I ever get around to haveing the interior redone I will have them mounted flush in the headliner. It does lend itself to a more surround sound. I noticed a big difference when I did it. Instead of the sound coming from below you it comes from below you and above you. I like it. I have the same thing for the rear.

I installed my tweets on the kick panels, mainly to achieve better stereo imaging. Placing them as low as practically possible will help equalize left and right path lengths, for a more balanced sound.

The tweets have a clear shot to my ear from both sides. Passengers' legs will block the right tweeter, but I usually drive alone so I dont worry about that. It's set up pretty good: the sound doesn't seem to come from below, it's more like about dashboard level.

I also haven't kicked it yet, even without being that careful getting in and out of the car.

I have mine mounted in the same place except just attatched to the stock piece there and are not pointed inward, but more towards the back of the car. I have Infinity tweeters and they came with two mounting bracktes, one that just attaches to a flat surface and one that swivels. The ones that swivel you have to put about 2 inch whole and it makes them inset so they look really nice, and on a gen 1 they would mount really nice on that flat surface on the door panel right about the regular speaker.

When I made these Ian and I sat in the car and listened to the tweets in different positions before we determined the angle to mount the tweets permanently. We wound up with an angle that points across and slightly back, the tweets still point infront of the seats, and favor the drivers position slightly, since that is the person that counts the most, and Ian isn't competing.

Its probably less work to do what I did then to get something that doesn't fit to begin with and then carve it up to make it fit. The tweeter pods were mounted onto the stock sail panel, wrapped and glassed and then painted. They still even mount with the stock screw.
