I saw tims reinforced rear motor mount.. and got me thinking..

is there any "visual" difference between a stock MTX MM, and a reinforced MM??
Also, if anyone had pics of the two, either seperate or side by side that would be great!!! or a link too.. either one...
because, mine, look exactly like that....
but i dont know if there is something done internally to the actuall mount...
TIA :thumb:

Eh, usually the folks that reinforce them thar motor mounts just cut out the old rod in the middle of the mount and put a thicker one in place. That's what the rear reinforced MM I got from FPS is. However, my home made front reinforced mount is done a little differently.

I ran 4 grade 8 bolts through the mount...two on each side through the rubber and bolted the plates together, kinda squashing the bushing. I ain't broke the thing yet...though for some reason I keep breaking the top retaining bolt, probably because the rear mount's destroyed....

Unless yours is reinforced, the rod going through the mount will not look like the one in my pic. The stock ones are much smaller, and are pinned/pressed in. A tweaked mount will have the larger diameter rod and you will be able to see where it was welded in.

Also, some mounts will have a plate slid in between the rubber (rear only) to further limit travel. Most just have the bigger bolt though.

check my sig for a how-to for urethane mounts. It shows methods I use in reinforcing mounts that could be used on rubber mounts as well :thumb:

that sounds involved.....I still like my idea better. It ain't as pretty, but it's just as effective, if not more so. I plan on doing it to my new, reinforced rear mount from FPS before I install it.

Wow...I wonder how Doug or Larry would react if they knew I was getting ready to drill 4 rather large holes in one of their freshly welded motor mounts?
