Well, the cause of death for my 3.0 was confirmed this morning at 2:00 am when we finished ripping her down to nothing. WARNING: The pictures below are not for the faint of heart. :squint:

This is the crank, if you look close you can see a grove scored in it and metal bits everywhere

Ok, I will be the one to ask you these 3 questions:

1: How long have you had the car (mile wise)

2: Do you ride your car hard before it has warmed up?

3: What kind of maintenance of your car would you be referring to that would have prevented this? I assume you change the oil regularly right?

Changing the oil regularly and not lugging the engine below 1500 rpms or so in higher gears. The car doesn't even have 20 psi of oil pressure until you're above 1500 or so RPMs on a tight engine. On the higher mileage ones out there its only gonna have lower pressure. Lugging the engine along, excessive cold starts, running too-thick oil in cold temperatures, and running the car hard before the oil is up to temperature and flowing properly will all lead to premature rod bearing failure.

BlownByU (Jason) was the third owner of his Opal Frost that is in my garage going thru the heart transplant. I really believe after tearing into the car that the 1st owner loved it, the second owner abused it, then Jason got it, I taught him about the whole point of a SHO and when to shift (he was shifting at 3k), within a month of him buying the car it was dead. I seem to think that the 2nd owner just covered up the knocking, and Jason didn't know, and didn't listen to me when I told him I could hear his car knocking so loud as to hear it over my car at 70mph with the music on and the windows down. The motor siezed about a mile later.

The engine pan smelled putrid, so I think all manners of snake oils were used to try and fix the knocking before Jason bought it. THe car was beautiful, and ran good for the first 2k that Jason had it, then all **** broke loose.

By the time I heard what I heard I knew the damage was totally done. I still wished I had made him shut the car off when I heard the first knock, but in retrospect, I doubt it would have saved us from a 3.2 transplant.

Now if he only hadn't bought a heavy set of rims, his car might have been quick this summer.

Yea I just turned 2000 miles with it when it died (122,XXXmi). I didn't get on it when it was cold, when it was warmed up, yea, I wasn't afraid to get on it now and than but it's a SHO. As soon as I got the car I changed the oil and planned on a 60k but never got there.

I supposed turning the radio up real loud to cover up the knocking wasn't the best of ideas :nono: but I didn't think this would happen either. :D

I bought the car off ebay and for the most part it's in great condition. I paid 2600 was a good deal when the car ran, oh yea and 650 to ship from NC but at least this pushed me to a 3.2 swap. The only thing that really got me ****** was the fact that I had to drive around in my 88 F-150 all damn summer while everyone else had their car  . Oh well
