I got my PP Y-Pipe installed today and the front ****** didn't fit flush against the car. If looking at the Y-Pipe from the front of the car, the ****** on the front pipe of the Y-Pipe didn't sit flush. The gap between the left bolt and the pipe is bigger than the gap between the pipe and the right bolt. The rear pipe of the Y-Pipe looks fine, just the front one doesn't. Another problem that I encountered was that the car smelled funny after driving with the new pipe. Smelled like a burning smell. Could this be the Y-Pipe too? Sorry for the long and confusing post. Thanks

The burning smell is normal, I worked at a dealership long enough to know that new cars stink when they run. I'm guessing either chemicals on the metal, or the cats heating up are causing it. Also the grease from the mechanics hands, etc.
If it doesn't go away, or you notice flames from under the hood, consult a mechanic immediatly

I think the smell is slowly going away. The ****** on the other hand is STILL crooked. What do you guys think? Fred? I know you've got the PP Y-Pipe. Does yours sit flush? Thanks

Yeah Mike, mine sits flush, but I had to cut away part of the ****** of one cat to keep it from hitting the subframe. Perhaps you're hanging up on the subframe, & it's throwing things out of whack. Do you have a pic?

I used a bench grinder to take off about 3/8" of the ****** of one cat (rear, I think). I would get on the horn with PP immediately if you have ANY doubt about it not working correctly. They're good people & won't steer you wrong.

As for the burn-off, yeah I've had that on some cars after exhaust was put on - oddly enough, not that I remember on the PP Pipe. Best of luck, & keep us informed.

I have installed four PP Y-pipes. Other than trimming the front bank cat's ****** on the earlier versions due to interference with the subframe, they fit just fine. I noticed that the later products had the ****** trimmed before shipment. You have to manuever the Y-pipe as necessary to get the two flanges to fit flush on the manifolds. There are more than front-back and left-right adjustments on the pipe's fitment.

Thanks a lot for the help guys. I will go back home tomorrow and have them put the SHO back on the lift so I can adjust the pipe accordinly. Also, for all you Y-Pipe group buyers, SEND IN THOSE MONEY ORDERS. My room is completely filled with the 12 boxes of pipes. Thanks again.

Well, had the SHO back up on the lift today and checked the gap. The gap wasn't that big and it felt nice and tight against the manifold. I emailed Performance Plus and this is what they said. Michael,
Be careful who you listen to! It's not supposed to be flush! The stock one isnt flush either but no one notices that when they take it off. Sometimes when people install the pipes, they tighten each bolt as they put it on and it doesnt seem to fit right. The pipe should be bolted all on loosely and then tightened when its in place. That allows for a better fit. If its not leaking, then its OK.
Cathy

So, I hope it's fine and I'll leave it alone. Thanks for all your suggestions guys.
