I have a 93 ATX that is studdering at part throttle but when you push past the studder it takes off like it was just waiting to see what i was gonna do. Its always there like when your cruising and go to kick it down to passenger gear it studders like a constant miss then it catches the gear and goes. It has the original plug wires on and when I changed plugs the other night it looked like they were in good shape but the plugs didnt cure the problem. There wasnt a lot of oil down in the plug wells but there was a little that I cleaned out. Could this be the wires or possibly the TPS or could a clogged EGR cause this because it is pulling EGR codes. Thanks..

i had the same problem which turned out to be my plug wires. i recommend having your tps tested since it is easy to take off, but i would plan on changing your plug wires if theyre the originals. its possible you may have an egr problem but i cant really think that would cause your car to stutter. which code is it throwing? theres a few different egr codes.

The EGR Codes are 332 on the KOEO test and 326 on the KOER test. I found most of the stutter tonight. We bought this car over the weekend and it had this stutter then. I changed plugs on it and found that the middle one on the rear was a Bosch double platinum and the others were all autolite single platinums. I changed them all out to Autolite PP plugs but tonight I decided to change that plug wire on the same plug because the little rubber boot was gone (which I put back on when I changed plugs) and found that all the plug wires are factory but that one and it was also a bosch wire to go with the bosch plug. I put a factory wire from my other SHO on there and it seems to have cured most of the stutter but I can still tell its there every now and then.

well then it sounds like the wires are your problem. i would recommend motorcraft plugs and wires when you do the changeout.

as far as your EGR goes, ive had one fail and i know alot of people say its very very rare so i would check your DPFE sensor first (gray rectangular box on the back of the intake), it should have two hoses going into the bottom of it and a sensor plugged into the side of it. and if thats not your problem then change out the EGR valve. just make sure all your vacuum lines are connected in the back wink

79 pace I have the same problem - 93' ATX that studders once warm same as you - hesitates at stop lights then when it catches up with its self it takes off like a rocket. I changed the plugs and wires as well but its still there. I get a 327 code error and was planning on changing out the EGR but from what I've heard the small passage through the intake might be clogged with coke as well. I'm planning on changing the EGR tonight and will post tomorrow if it cured the hesitation.

Ok.. The problem is not solved. I guess it just fooled me last night but it still has the part throttle studder to it. The plug wire I changed was obviously not causing it. I am going to pull the TPS off my other SHO and put it on this one to see if that helps. Anyone know what the voltage should read or the proper procedure for setting up the TPS on this thing?

I had that exact same problem so I went through and replaced the plugs and wires with brand new Motorcraft ones and it solved the problem. Not only were the wires bad, but one of the plugs was only in finger tight and another was gapped to .057 (.011 out of tolerance range!!)

God I'd like to kick the guy that worked on the car before I got it (I've owned it for about a month now)

For me, I reasoned that it was definitely an electrical problem because on light duty (during gear shifts when the engine was revving down or when I accelerated slowly) the air/fuel mixture isn't under as high compression and has a tendency to misfire if a good spark isn't there. Once the engine gets going, even a half-assed spark will ignite it and rocket you away. The shuddering was just constant misfiring. If it studders when you are accelerating fast then it may be a transmission problem, but only on light duty tends to point toward electrical.
