Cable goes from peddle to under drivers door to adjusting mech. Then second lines go to rear brakes. Check at adjusting mech. to see if anything is moving or disconnected.

It appears like you've broken a cable or a connector somewhere in the system. It is also possible that the pedal mechanism mounting bracket is loose.

As already posted by doclees, follow the line from the pedal to the rear brakes and you should be able to see what is broken or loose. It might also help to have someone else in the car to operate the pedal so you can see whether or not the cable is moving when the pedal is pushed.

If everything appears normal, it could just be that your rear brakes are worn out, or the cable needs adusting.

Good luck.

I see you are from Illinios, The rust belt. Many rear brake problems occur due to rust, It could be a stuck cable, broken(rusted)cable stop, or rusted mechanical on the caliper. The cable or cables are obiously not returning. That means they are either stuck or broken. I would doubt they broke. You need to remove the calipers & cable from each side & make sure they will slide easily back & forth through the cable casings. You will see there is an ajustment for both sides along the driver side rocker panel underneath.
