Scott invited all of us to hit the track yesterday. It was a great time overall, however, I knew my launch was going to be my downfall. This was my second time racing down the 1/4 mile and the first time in this car.

About two years ago, I pulled off a 15.8 at 88 mph in my stock '92. Yesterday, I pulled a best of 14.6 at 110 mph spinning most of 1st and a good deal of second. My first run resulted in a shattered axle shifting into 2nd gear :), but a run to Napa to pick up a new axle and Scott had me back together in time to make my next run. My next runs had me scared to break another axle so my launching shows that. I had to worry about getting home, right?

Scott had a great night. He got his best time ever which is excellent considering the altitude (video). He also took home first place for his class that night! Congrats Scott. Scott also pushed me out the way to replace my axle, but he got it done quickly. Thanks again Scott (and Travis)! Apparently I was getting in the way of fixing my own car, so I went to go talk with Pat and Terry :)

Terry had good runs considering he was fighting detonation and a knock monitor that had a mind of it's own. I know he had to back out and had a stumble here and there, but he still beat me. IIRC, after tightening his belt, he was pushing 15 PSI.

Pat's Bimmer always surprises people. It's a boat, but it is fast. The torque converter won't allow him to brake boost, however, the video still shows him taking down a Vette (note the times of what a Vette pulls up in this thin air).

Here is 3 minute video compilation of the night. I'll post a picture of my personal trophy piece (got two now), the broken axle. Luckily, this one broke at the knuckle... Sure as **** won't be able to talk the old lady into letting me buy the $1k axles since we're about to buy a house.

Man I wish I could've made it down.

Good vid! And, Congratulations again to Scott, not only on the fast ET but winning in an elimination bracket in a FWD, Manual Transmission car. Somebody's got skills!

110 mph at this altitude is pretty damned good. You should be close to running a low 13 at those trap speeds. My best in the white street SHO is a 13.9 at 105 and a 13.2 at 114 in the track SHO. I'm a very slow shifter so I probably loose at least 1/4 second.

Scott - congrats on the run and the trophy. You have those launches down pat. What are your 60 foot? Pretty damned impressive with that rear turbo mount.

The BMW ran a best 14.2, but I think I could have ended up at a 14.0 had I not spun the tires in the last run. The car sure is heavy (around 4500 pounds) but it was still fun seeing it pull in a good time and running as fast as new model stock vettes.

BTW - I ran the Gtech meter during the runs and found it reasonably close at with Gtech 0.2 faster and 2 mph faster. Don't know if I need to recalibrate it.

I'll be there on Weds and will bring a SHO.

Dayummm!!!! You guys are doing great. You're approaching the ET's of the much lighter Other Woman in those heavy cars. Congrats and keep up the good work.

half-way there, I think.
It was a lot of fun. I'm up for Wednesday, but I'll bring the truck out. I don't want the hassle of tech inspection on the car again. I've got to get the correct battery box and cut-off switch installed in it.

I'm hoping I'm off wednesday so I can go with you guys.

My 60' times are in the 2.3 to 2.4 range mostly, with a few stragglers in the 2.5 and 2.6 areas. With some drag tires and better axles, I have no doubt I could be pulling much better times.

I think I was hitting 2.4 second 60's with my '92. If I could bring my 60' down to 2.3 (hit 2.7 - 2.9 the other night) and keep the wheel spin down, I could do a respectable time.

Laurie said I can make it down on Wednesday and she'll be coming out too. Hopefully, I'll get plenty of practice.

Jason, this is why I take 3 sets of axle's with me to the drags. Gotta be prepared to play. P.S. Buy yourself a set of Hoosier Quick Time Pro's and you're all set. No wheel hop with these over the Nitto drag radials.

It's not wheel hop that gets me as I haven't experienced any... What got me is trying to slam into second gear while mashing on the throttle and letting out the clutch. Axles don't take too kindly to 400 ft-lbs of instant torque. It was an instant break actually. Sure I bet with a good launch and some drag radials, I can get some really good times. I may ask to borrow some track tires to help keep me from spinning at the top of first and second.

My biggest problem is my launch. I've practiced at it a little today and I just can't get it down in this car. I was decent at my stock SHO, but this clutch either grabs and bogs or slips like crazy. I'm going to have Scott try it out today to see if my clutch behaves the same as his.

I second that notion. No wheel hop and lauching at 4k+ rules....

Its so weird with the tires not spinning. I love'em already

I am kinda of surprised the axles snap when going to second. I would think the tires would just go up in smoke. Jason, are the tires u have relativly sticky tires???

Jason,

If all goes well tomorrow, I'll have the moroso battery box and cut off switch installed on the car. I'm hoping to be out there with the SHO instead of the truck on Wednesday

On my first run of the day, the sun was still shining on the track (although the track is cooled), so the rubber and VHT was probably pretty sticky. I should have known that when I wasn't spinning at the top of first gear (I spun like crazy when the sun went down).

Terry is right, I am running Nitto NT555's at 28 PSI. I didn't put them any lower as I didn't have an air tank to put more back in for the ride home. Scott is also running NT555's (one of my old tires IIRC), but I'm not sure on the pressure.

Awe... you're going to make me look bad. I won't have a cut-off switch in by Wednesday. What are you wiring it to?

I'm running the nt555's as well but at 30.5 psi.

Good job Terry, lets get the green monster into the 13's as well! lol.

Area 91: What size tires are you running for the Quick Times? I can only find 2 drag radials that will fit on my car in a 17" size(remember 13" brakes). One is the BFG drag radial in a 225/45/17 and the other is the Nitto NT555R drag radial in a 245/45/17. which would you recommend? or do you know of something else?

Glad to hear your bringing the SHO. You going to wire the cut-off switch into the fuel pump too?

I'll be there with the White SHO.

Nice vids and races:thumb: Thanks for posting them!

I love that BMW:dribble:

Also, in that last race, was that a Caliber SRT4? If it was, what did it run?
