audi guys do this religiously. I can't understand why ford didn't do this from the factory

The B6 A4 is a popular setup to paint the lowers on. It even reminds me of the taurus a little bit!

I guess you don't want to look at all the paint chips that would likely result! Maybe Ford had too many complaints about this?

Because the dark trim can make the car look smaller or lower by hiding the rockers in the shadow of the car. I'd like to see a full car pic of that silver one with the painted bottoms, but it might make the car look bigger than its already monstrous footprint.

They did it to the Mustang for 2013 and I still prefer the '10-12 because it makes the car look slimmer and longer, especially on a bright color, like Grabber Blue:

Just found this from H&R. Pretty sweet. Makes the car look more luxury & expensive

Plastic although may be practical still looks cheap either way.

To that point, the MKZ does have fully painted lower body cladding. So may indeed be a difference of "luxury".

good point. I actually didnt realize they had them painted... however i have to state my opinion that the SHO is a much sexier beast than the MKZ

I've had painted lowers 2 years. I thought they wouldn't hold up but to be honest there just fine. I painted my grille also, it however didn't didn't hold up. The painter told me it wouldn't before he did it

I love the look!! What kind of prep did you do on the plastic? I am having a front air dam installed and would like to paint the lowers at the same time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I painted my engine cover and I found trying to sand off all the stipple on plastic next to impossible, plastic just doesn't sand well. But if where to do my lowers I would still give them a good sanding with some 320 grit and then clean with plastic prep I used a dupont product and spray with a plastic adhesion promotor this I found auto parts think it was a duplicolor product. And then a urethane primer to fill the stippling to make smooth, wet sand and topcoat color and clear.
