Hello all; I have a '91 Oxford White. I am trying to match this color. I have the oxford white and clear but in the past when I used this combo I did not like the results. The oxford white matches the car really well (I used a grey primer first) but when I add the clear coat the white color goes off towards a 'grey' which does not look right and definitely does not match. Can anyone offer advice? I am going to make a new sample with a black primer will this have any effect?
Thanks,
Joe

What happens over the years is that the clear coat becomes less clear and starts to yellow, so when you try to match or blend with new, the difference is often striking. The more time the vehicle has been in the sun, the more off the old clear is. Matching white is the hardest color...

I just painted my grill oxford white (code Y0). I used this 2k touch up paint & clear, it matches really well.

Thanks for the advice. Do you think it's the brand of clear then? That SHO pic is awesome. Is that '91 a total repaint with the "Touchup King" paint? Sorry for all the questions but here's one more. Previously owned SHO's, '99 red, '95 red, '89 titanium, currently a '91 oxford white is that correct? (there's something going on here) LOL. I would like to see more pics of your '91.
Thanks,
Joe

Thanks Chad. My SHO is always covered (thirty years now) and too many covers to remember but the original paint is the part that is still white. I have newly painted samples (oxford white base) that match the original very well. It's when I add clear to the sample is when the sample color goes off. I just need to add clear coat without changing the base color.

My car was repainted in the past (maybe 2-3 years ago?), so the paint probably hasn’t aged like a factory paint job. So my experience may be different from what you’re seeing. I have no idea what they used, but it seems like a 2k quality paint & clear. I bought it this way.

I’ve owned a few SHOs thru the years; I guess that makes me old. Here’s the boring rundown:
1996-2000 - 89 SHO
2003-2006 - 95 SHO
2005-2008 - 99 SHO
2008-2010 - 07 Mustang GT
2014-2020 - 00 Contour SVT
2020-2022 - Pontiac Solstice GXP (boring)
2024 - 91 SHO

I don’t have good pictures yet, waiting on tools to do the front wheel bearings:

Thanks for the pics. Have you done any upgrades to your '91?
I have done a few over the last 30yrs. (showing my age LOL). Right off in '94 it was subframe connectors, performance plus s.s.'y' pipe then a '96 brake upgrade, reinforced motor mounts and alum. sub frame bushings which I removed because the early ones made a-lot of noise and put in the police bushings which have held up very well and the addition a few years back was the 'quaife' lsd that has made many improvements. Lately it's been shifter upgrades from shosource and I will be getting the new alum.'cup' style bushings (no noise). The alum. bushings make the sho handle like it's on rails if you like that kind of thing.

My odo says 81k and everyone asks if it has turned over and I answer yeah! twice and I still need paint. So my SHO has always been my daily driver (no tickets, no points) but I have been stopped 3 times for doing triple digits and for some very fortunate reason got away with it. I think this may be because of the SHO mystique. LOL.

Thanks for the pics and the clarification. I'll format some pics & post.
Best to ya,
Joe

The Oxford white Gen1s did not get clear coat. They were all single stage. Adding the clear to your paint is what's causing it to be different. I've done several touch ups on my various white Gen1s and it always comes out looking great. I never use a clear.

My latest project was the rear upper quarter on my white 89.

WOW! Thanks very much Chad you just made my life much easier. I would have never guessed that my car's paint is single stage but it now makes sense.
Thanks again.
