a quick, probably pointless question on temperature...The temp gauge is an idiot gauge correct? As long as its in normal everythings cool (so to speak) right? Cause i just get nervous when the needle stays in the upper 3rd of the gauge after "spirited" driving. It never goes obove the "o" but i still get nervous. Thanks in advance for quelling my stupid pointless fears.

Assuming your engine temp sender for the PCM is good the best thing to do is to let the car idle when hot and notice the position of the IP temp gage when the radiator fan comes on with the A/C off. This is ~210F and the upper limits of the NORMAL range.

The temp gauge, if working properly, is an accurate indicator of coolant temps. It does respond to temp changes of only a degree or two. Now lets all give three cheers for the BOZO at Ford that designed the gauges in my '00 Ranger. When the engine is started all the needles snap to the center of their scales and stay there.
