I've been looking at seats for over a year now and I finally have decided to go ahead and buy some. I've got it narrowed down to two seats from Corbeau. The two seats I'm looking at are:

CR1 in black cloth

CR1 in black microsuede
CR1_blk.jpg

TRS in black cloth

TRS in black microsuede

My dad has the wide version of the CR1 in black cloth. They look nice and seemed comfortable, however, I couldn't really compare because the 'wide' version doesn't really hug me.

I think the TRS would hold a person in very well from top to bottom and the CR1 look like they'd get the job done, but I really like the wear patches it has.

I also cannot decide whether or not I like the cloth or microsuede better... I am going to try to find a dealer that has an example of the microsuede to see if I like it.

Anyway, just looking for opinions... What is your thought on the two seats???

For a car that gets a fair amount of street use I always liked the way that Corbeau does the wear patches. A typical race seat like a Sparco or something holds up for about ten minutes under normal use.

Definitely see if you can find examples of exacty what you want...fit from seat to seat model changes substantially.

But why not be a real man and get one of those Kirkey aluminum sheet metal seats?

The wear patches seem to be a great idea. I want the seat so look good for a long time. ****, my leather seats still look damn near new, so I think these should last just as long or longer under the same care.

I got a list of authorized dealers in my local area that I'd be able to see the seats and sit in them. I have tomorrow off, so I think I'll go do what you suggested Eric, and check them out in person.

Even though the Civic gets more girls than my bad-ass Taurus (oxymoron :), but I'm not kidding... The Civic is a chick-magnet compared to the get-you-wet-by-putting-you in-the-seat Taurus), I'd still like the g/f to ride with me on occasion.

i like the trs cuz they look alittle more comfertable. Isnt your dads car a monte carlo? I dont remember that being his daily driver and the sho is ur daily driver right? i think the trs would be a better choice.

Thanks Jason, I've been leaning towards those myself. :nut:

No, my SHO is far from a daily driver. I haven't driven it since October... Even then I only drove it from June to October all of last year and that still wasn't daily driving.

I like the TRS, but they look very aggressive and they do not have wear patches. I think I'd like them, but I'm not sure how fun they would be on a 2-hour trip with the g/f or family.

Hmmm... decisions...

Jason, is there no accomodation for a sub-strap in those seats? Some of the event organizers are starting to crack down on four-point harnesses for track use. I wouldn't have passed tech at our last event if I hadn't just put the sub-strap in.

These aren't APC seats found at Pep Boys. These are actually very good seats that are very useful when you want to stay in your seat. They hug you very well and they are one solid color, black at that.

Yeah, but I don't like any of their seat that do accommodate the lower strap. I am buying the retractable harness and I hear they'll pass you with that, but I'm not sure. I'll have it all worked out sometime..

I've got a harness related question....

Why are they not DOT legal? Is it the fact that its not OEM? OR That installation may be done incorrectly?

I wanted to put a set of harnesses in... but after finding that out.. :frown:

Well, I went and sat in some TRS seats and I think they're out. They are very aggressive in the shoulder area... A little too aggressive for a guy like me who works out often. I don't think they would be good for anything more than short trips and track only seats.

No one around here out of the 3 dealers in the Denver area have the CR1 seats, however, a new seat has entered the picture as I was able to sit in it (both microsuede and cloth). The new one I'm looking at is the LG1. I originally did not like them in pictures, but I really like them when I sat in them.

I've also decided on microsuede versus cloth now.

Here are the demensions:

Eric, I also looked at the 5-point harness they have and the bottom strap is long enough to strethc around the front of the seat.

I like em. How much is it for one seat. Im guessin theyr pricey cuz theyr corbeau. You said this is going to be strictly track use? Have you gutted the interior or did u decide against that?

LOL! I never said this is a track only car, and I also never said it was a daily driver. This is my 'toy'. It only gets driven on nice days, to car shows and an occasional track event. The interior is immaculate, I could not justify ever taking it out. The back leather seats looks as if no one has sat in them, same for the passenger front seat as well.

I went ahead and bought the seats locally today, but I won't receive them until Tuesday. Since I had just sold the '92, I'd rather get rid of the cash I have on hand versus pulling money out of any account. I got a smoking deal, especially since I had to pay tax and most internet stores have free shipping (and no tax). I paid about $100 less than what I would have paid at the cheapes internet store (I always ask about military discounts!) and I ended up deciding on the CR1 in black microsuede.

One seat runs $399, but I was able to get them down to $334/seat.

And they are lightweight :thumb:

Good choice on the CR1's, based on the pics :thumb:

Does a seat have to have a hole in the bottom of it to accommodate a 5 point harness legally (ie. to pass tech)?

You can't run the sub-strap(s) around the front of the seat, if that's what you mean. Cutting a hole in a seat might work.

My friend just put suede CR1s in his Maxima that he drives about 80miles per day and tracks a few times a years. He is very happy with them so far.

When I sat in them, I thought they were a little hard, but he's said they softened up a little with use. I wish I could say the same for the seats in my RSX, they're uncomfortable after driving for a few hours at a time.

He posts on here every now and then, maybe he'll chime in.
