Hey guys,

Thanks to all knowing and unknowing SHOwners who helped or provided info on the heater core swap. After 10 or so hours over 2-3 days, I finally have heat! The job wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but no fun nonetheless. One problem, though, when trying to remove my speedo cable, it came out of the tranny...I put it back in afterward and it worked ok for a while but when driving back from ME last night, it came out and will not work now no matter how much it feels like it's back in the hole. I'm assuming that the cable is broken. My question, what do I probably need? The entire cable from tranny to instrument cluster? Or just from the white plastic junction to the tranny? Also, how the **** do you remove the cable from the cluster, I looked with a mirror, felt around and couldn't figure it out.

Thanks in advance for any help...even though it's a good excuse for getting pulled over, I'm not a fan of not knowing how fast I'm driving.

I used the screwdriver and pull method. The only thing is i removed the gauge pod from a parts car. I'll check tommorow.

Sorry, I might not have been clear before, the cable came out of the tranny and appears to be broken, do I have to replace the whole thing? Is there a typical failure for either section of the speedo cable? And can anyone explain the EXACT way to remove it from the back of the cluster? From what I saw, it looked like a plastic sleeve nut with some kind of lock that I couldn't figure out with an inspection mirror and my hand...

Like I said, at least I have heat. I would commit suicide after my first day if SHO heater core swaps was my job...

The nut removes from the back of the instrument cluster by squeezing it to release the catches. Once released, the cable just pulls off.

I've found it easier to just separate the cable at the split in the engine compartment, then pull the upper speedo cable almost through the firewall so that I can get the cluster far enough out to disconnect it. My hands are too large to disconnect the cable from the head with it in place in the dash.

Is the cable SHO specific?

Is the part discontinued from FoMoCo?

Anyone know the best place to get a replacement?
