Just drove it last night and now the notchy shifting is back. What would cause a 95 MTX to shift smooth as butter one day and notchy the next? When the shifting feel gets bad, so does the clutch action feel. Sound like the TOB? I don't think the clutch is worn because like I said it shifts beautifully sometimes. When the shifting is bad it has a feel like it's not completely disengaging, even with the pedal to floor. Clutch is only about 20k miles old. I'd rather not take it to a shop until I can tell the mechanic what to check for. I can see them telling me the clutch is shot.

It's getting cold here on the East coast and I'm starting to notice mine (66,00 miles on current fluid) starting to feel a bit stiff at startup when the temp drops down to 10 C or so. Does the feel vary with temperature?

Sounds exactly like mine right now. It's going in for the 60K in two weeks, and most likely I'm going to have them put a new clutch in at the same time. It's a little aggravating, since I just put a clutch in in May, and after about 10k miles the TOB is already shot.

BTW: Does anyone know much about the Grizzly TOB? Is it worth the extra money? Do they offer any kind of warranty?

There doesn't seem to be any relation to temperature. I saw on the shotimes website, a guy that lubed the cable and got the grittyness out of the clutch. I figure I'll try that first and see what happens. Still, the fact that this happens on and off is what boggles me.

Your throw out bearing is bad. Clutch dust, grit and other general crud galls the quill the TOB rides on. The clutch won't always work right until the parts are replaced.
