Okay, so I'm still getting some movement from the subframe

Now that it has settled and I've driven it a little harder, I am still getting some movement of the subframe. I checked further and ...of course...the rubber on the top of the subframe business is in crapy shape, all of them are cracked in two places as I feel it. So....options are...replace them if I really want to drive the car.
The guy who replaced the passenger side of Ginger's floor pan said that he had used pairs of hockey pucks as replacement bushings and that it worked great. Has anyone else ever heard of or tired that. Since hockey pucks are such hard rubber, my guess is that they would feel like halfway between original softer rubber and the aluminum ones that I have on Bob. I don't prefer those, too noisy at times. So I thinking about going out to him and see what he'd charge to replace all four with pairs of hockey pucks...or maybe there would need to be two like a sandwich to create the correct, or close to the correct distance between the body and the subframe itself...
Can I please hear the thoughts this brings up from all you experienced showmen?
I know what I'll find at the junkyard can't be much better than what i've got and I'm thinking nice new rubber with a hole drilled through and a steel sleeve for the bolt may be just the ticket to solve this problem...Any thoughts welcome.
Thx,
Tery

Thanks for sending that thread IrishPride...it was fun to read...even though it seemed to go south pretty quick. Anyway...Am I understanding correctly that the new SFB that one can buy for gen III will work just fine on Gen II? I looked up doorman parts and they only go back to 1996..
thx,
T

the hockey pucks are known to crack / break after some time, so are a poor choice.

the Gen3 bushings are superior to the Gen2 bushings and are my favorite in these cars. Gen3 bushings have some alignment bumps on the sides that need to be cut or ground off to allow them to go up into the hole, but otherwise are a bolt-in.

And you have to get the rear bushings for the GenIII. There are front and rear bushing part numbers for the GenIII subframe. In case anyone doing a search gets confused, there is only one subframe and that has frontward and rearward oriented mounts/bushings.

Okay Terrific, thanks guys,
So to be clear. I can order the subframe bushings for a gen III sho and use them in my Gen II just cutting/grinding off the bumps so they fit up into the mounting holes in the subframe arm...Have I got it??
Sorry to be obtuse, ut I wanna be sure of course. And as I read it, there are 10mm bolts that hold the old bushings on the subframe arm, but I can just dremmel or otherwise carefully cut through and get them off, rather than try to deal with the likely terribly rusted 10mm bolts??

yes and yes. however, the little bolts are small enough that you should be able to either get the nut off or twist the nut off by breaking the bolt, unless the nut is rusted away so you can't get ahold of it.

You need to use the rear Gen III subframe bushings. As already posted above, there are front bushings and rear bushings for the Gen 3. You need two pairs of rear bushings for your Gen 2.
