OK, can someone dispel some concerns for me?

Hey, this summary has been hugely helpful. I know I'm not on this post, but this is great. A bought my 15pp with 47k miles about a week ago. I started researching after....duh...thinking more about mods and never expecting the issues.
After seeing the PTU posts I started reading everything. But this summary has been terrific.
I have no idea whether its had issues, been taken care of...nothing. seems like I'm going to need to learn how to do all this maintenance.

Change the PTU fluid with some Redline Lightweight Shockproof fluid (cheap off Amazon) and have more peace of mind.

On my 13 pp I found that if you have a cheap 5/8 spark plug 6 point socket you can take a grinder to the side of it and cut a 1/4 gap from tip to about 3/4 the way to the end just like a O2 socket. then all you have to do is loosen the t30 bolt just up above the temp sensor on the ptu and push up on the heat shield as this hole is notched (2bolts holding on the heat sheild) this will let you get the temp sensor out to refill the ptu. you don't have to unplug it just be mind full of the wires and twist them evenly as you take the sensor out.
tools you will need to change the ptu on a PP:
the above socket
a o2 socket (7/8)
15mm deep 1/2 drive and extention
t30 in 1/4 drive with wobble adapter
a fluid pump and a way to measure out 18 oz
jack and stands.

I still really want to fab up a pump and reservoir for a PTU fluid cooler like we used to do on road race cars. A Tilton pump moves this thicker oil very well and deals with the head well. I figure I could run a small oil cooler up front behind the bumper grille and run a small reservoir that will hold about a quart of fluid or so. That way there is a constant supply of fresh cool fluid in the PTU. We would do this on road race cars with manual transmissions as well as on the rear ends. Always worked well.

I took my 15pp to an AAMCO. They did just what you said with the socket. Nice call.
