Was wondering brand oil some of you run? I know they say to use a good synthetic oil to avoid carbon buildup on valve. I was thinking about using Royal purple. Anyone use it or run anything else? Thanks

from what i can gather most brands high end synthetics all seem the same. (mobil 1, royal purple, pennzoil ultra platinum, castrol whatever it is lol) my guess is you would be fine with motorcraft synthetic i just like trying the supposed new additives and tech in there. For instance pennzoil platinum is made from natural gas and kicks ass in wear tests. mobil 1 has been the stable for many for so many sports cars and is endorsed by most ford dealerships to some extent. heres some of there claims

pennzoil plat
purePlus™ Technology is a revolutionary process that converts natural gas into a 99.5% pure base oil. Combining it with high performance additives means Pennzoil Platinum® Full Synthetic motor oil is proven to keep pistons up to 40% cleaner1 than the toughest industry standard, based on ILSAC GF-5. Additionally, Pennzoil Platinum® keeps pistons up to 8% cleaner than Mobil 1 and up to 17% cleaner than Valvoline® SynPower®.

Mobil 1 basically says its been the stable for 40 years why second guess it .

PROVEN STRENGTH
Castrol EDGE with TITANIUM FST™:
reduces friction by up to 15% * more than the same CASTROL oil without TITANIUM FST™
is up to 45%** stronger than a major competitor, reducing metal-to-metal contact
maintains its strength for at least 140*** hours longer

Royal purple
Royal Purple manufactures high performance lubricants for most automotive, industrial, marine, motorcycle and racing applications. It is considered the best synthetic motor oil by many end users.

Royal Purple synthetic oil and synthetic lubricants are formulated to maximize performance in real-world applications.

Numerous independent parties report performance gains by using Royal Purple lubricants.

Additive technologies, such as Synerlec®, enable Royal Purple synthetic products to outperform leading synthetic and conventional lubricants. These unique chemistries strengthen the base oil for improved performance.

royal purple seems quite focused on performance but thats not really what im thinking about when i choose my oil.

Ive tried mobil 1 and pennzoil ive liked both and i might even give motorcraft synth a try next time if its cheaper.

i heard amsoil is great but it isnt API certified so i think it technically voids your warranty if they knew you used amsoil.

From extensive research I run Mobil 1 fully synthethic. Mainly because the oil lubricates the turbos, mobil 1 has the best resistance to breaking down from that. I ran royal purple in my Mustang before and it worked well, but read that it doesn't handle as well as mobil for turbos. Motorcraft will probably hold up just fine as well. No experience with amsoil or penzoil so can't vouch for them personally!

I personally discuss oils with the engine builder at Livernois Motorsports. Ford's Motorcraft full synthetic is a tear1 motor oil. is on the same performance level as the other synthetic motor oils that are marketed. Make sure they use a Motorcraft filter. Now I do use Royal Purple in my 1988 Saleen. The motor is has a lot of mods done to the motor.

that would be "tier 1" rather than "tear1" for those of you who are English teachers...

I am using Redline oil currently with a royal purple filter on the '14 SHO. On my '98 I have been running Mobil 1 for years, but I did use royal purple high mileage this past summer. The royal purple did seem to change color a bit quicker than the Mobil 1. Perhaps RP has more detergents in it?

My dad was a mechanic on his race cars when I was growing up so he taught me the difference in good and bad oils, he ran Valvoline. When I worked for Junior Johnson on his race cars we ran Valvoline, I got to know the guys in the lab at Ashland oil company on a first name basis, they know their stuff.

vr1 looks like a good product. I think if you get mobil 1, pennzoil platinum, motorcraft synth, castrol gtx or royal purple your not gonna have any problems ass tons of people swear by it.
