Pretty dumb question. And i should probably just run what the engine says.
My manual for my 15 sho said to run 5w20. And i always did run 5w20. Yet my new engine says on cap to run 5w30? Should i just run what the new engine says to run, not sure how different the engine is? I have a picture on me now from when it was being put in but i seen it on the cap yesterday. Intake manifold is still old as the new engine was just the longblock.

5W20 was actually spec'd for the 2010 MY, after which it has been 5W30. There are always errors in owners manuals and media publications unfortunately, looks like this was one of them.

GF4, really? Wow. https://www.oilspecifications.org/ilsac.php GF5 is minimum for the SHO.

You should have been running, and be running 5W30.

Ha, i said really when it said gf4 also. Ill just run what the cap says for 5w30. Thanks

I run 5w30 Mobil-1 full synthetic in my 2015. Doesn't use a drop of oil.

I run Castrol Edge in both or my ecoboost motors. I am extremely happy with the performance of the oil and the price point.

Run 5w30! Even if the cap says 5w20. Always always, On any Ecoboost engine. I can't stress it enough. Unless you're changing your oil Every 3k or you take frequent long trips and drive Normal.

When you buy an engine or a transmission for a car that's run a while, you usually get the newer engine from Ford. So if your 2010 sho met its expiration date and a piston eloped with its rod, you are most likely getting a 2018/19 engine with those parts. So it would be best to run the 5W30.

You guys do run HTO-06 oil though correct? That is the standard we should run. Its funny how even ford recommends syn blend oil for f150 ecoboost. But i guess if the engine lasts forever Ford will go out of business.
Amsoil Signature meets HTO-06 as does pennzoil and certain mobil 1, i dont think motorcraft full syn meets thats though

For those who dont know, honda/acura created that spec for zero carbon deposits with turbocharged engines while meeting 5k mile oil change interval. Well as honda always as been...to “help” the engine literally run forever with regular maitenance

Hope this dosnt turn into a thread i started more than a year ago lol

Have a sample sent out and tested for HTO-06. I don't see a Ford associated product advertising Honda ratings. I thought Kendall made some of the Motorcraft oils and I bet they have a synth that meets HT specs.

I think Motorcraft is just Valvoline now. I think thats who makes it for them, could be wrong

Maybe. I know the semi synth was made by Conoco/Phillips who also makes Kendall products. Maybe things changed since I last looked a few years ago.

Well i am in line for my first oil change this weekend. I may just put motorcraft in it for the first oil change. Im around 3k miles now (i mean 3k smiles, as im a miata guy) on my new engine. Ford Racing rep said before that there is no break in period as all their engines are ran on a dyno to ensure a good break in. And that is also made around 400hp at the crank, with their tune. But i didnt pay for their overpriced weak tune haha, works fine on stock ford tune too. I wonder what a good tune will run at the crank of a new engine? Amsoil next oil change in spring, way to cold to play around in it now.

Still ConocoPhillips which also owns Redline now BTW via Phillips 66.

I did my first oil change today. I got 5w30 castrol edge titanium. I remember back last year or so on my other oil thread i posted amsoil oil test results for pcv build up on tgdi engines and it had that castrol actually above the amsoil in their honest test. I have a catch can, so i will see if it fills up as much as it usually does also

Found it again, and i saw a testing before that had motorcraft full syn around 50-60mg of carbon deposit. Way worse then most other oils on an extended study. Ill try to find that one again also

I would recommend following the graph as ive had 3 EB engines and they all had pretty bad valves from the carbon deposits, well my new one should be good. And when i had the intake manifold off to clean them by hand in my codep302 thread for my engine that blew last year. Crc intake turbo cleaner worked the best. I could actually see it work just on contact as i also used others like seafoam and brakeclean and they really didnt work good. But that crc dissolved it before my eyes

The newer designed direct injection engines are now incorporating additional injectors above the valves so the fuel detergents can get at all the deposits.
