My 92 with 111000 miles on it started to flash the red oil pressure light. When I start the car after it has been sitting for a few dayus it is off and then about 1-2 minutes at idle it comes on. I shut the car off and start it again and the light comes on right away. I don't hear any ticking or abnormal noises fron the engine, but I don't want to drive it and blow it up. How do I find out what is bad? I searched the forum and came up with rod bearings, but how do I check to make sure what the problem is. thanks

Try hooking up an actual guage to see how many lbs. of pressure you have. If its below 10-12lbs., you have a problem.

Yes, the factory idiot lights are pretty inaccurate.

FWIW, my oil pressure light used to take a bit of time to turn off after starting in the mornings. It also would come on when stopped at traffic lights with lots of accessories dragging the motor down.

I threw a set of rod bearings in it and was glad I did:

Those bearings had 135k on them.

Haven't heard oil pump failures, so I doubt it's common.

The rod bearings are easy if you know your way around tools and torque wrenches. It can be done in a long afternoon.

It turned out to be a failing oil pressure sender. I just replaced it about 6 months ago, good thing it is only a five minute job.
