Is the car burning oil? If so, it is further indication you may have excess clearance in the rod-bearings. I.E., replace them because they are worn or the wrong size). If you have already done so, I hope you cleaned the bearings and journals well and checked for pitting and gouges. Those can lead to premature failure.

The noise sounds like you may be hearing a spun bearing or a bad camshaft chain tensioner.

BUT, check the oil pressure sending unit first, just to eliminate the obvious possibility.

BTW, what oil are you using? Have you recently switched oils? When was it last changed? Filter too? Any leaks? Is there sludge in the crankcase? All of these factors can contribute to poor oil pressure.

For the record it was indeed the rod bearings. I have found out the cars crankshaft was turned by a previous owner, therefore I installed standard sized bearings after following some advice. I learned the hard way to take the extra time and use plastigage and check the clearances! :nut:

the rod bearings do not have as much to do with oil pressure as the main bearings.Thr connecting rod journals are fed oil from the main jourmals, therefore if the are bad you will have really low oil pressure.I would reccomend changing them when doing the rod bearings, they are a bit of a pain to change with the crank still in the engine but is worth it.
