Had a similar cooling issue recently. Getting hot while sitting but normal when driving. I replaced the thermostat and the rear temp sensor and issue went away. My fans were coming on before so I am assuming it was a sticky thermostat but it was $45 for both and no issues overheating anymore.

O.k. I installed the rod bearings, have her all back together and im getting a code 114

Would this have anything to do with people saying my fan isnt coming on?
What is the best way to check if the fan is coming on? I drove around for an hour and it didnt over heat and I came back home and parked, left the car running and opened the hood and the fan wasnt running but it is also 31 degrees outside up here in the mountains.

How can I test the ACT sensor to make sure its not a problem with the wire itself since I was moving around the starter and there are wires in that area that could have been disturbed.

Stick your hand in there and see if the fan wobbles around on the bearing. Chances are, the [fan] motor is shot.

I can spin the fan by hand with no problem, it also doesnt wobble around. How many volts is it? 12? I want to try to add power to it directly via the plug on it. Does anyone know which of the three prongs is neg and pos?

What year and MTX or ATX?

On '93s it's Brown with an Orange stripe on MTX and Dark Blue with no stripe on ATX, both with black as the ground.

this is a 94 mtx. Fan runs fine when connected directly to the battery. Tested the connecter from the harness that plugs into the fan and I get no voltage at all on either prong when max a/c is on. How far does the wires travel from the connecter to the computer box next to it?

Fan relay would be the next part to check.

The Relay seems to be working. Checked the 60 amp Fuse and it is not burnt out...When I run a KOEO test, I can hear the relay make two quick clicking noises like it always has in the past but the fan doesnt come on, then I hear it click again and the fuel pump runs.

Edit: Unplugged ECT and still no fan.

What else could be the issue?

It sounds like you just need to do some standard pinpoint electrical testing. Basically find where there is voltage and go down the line until it's not and somewhere in the middle you have your disconnect. I'd start at the fuse. You say it isn't blown, but is it getting power? If the Fuse isn't getting power, then we might have a logic issue where the computer isn't telling the fan to turn on, but if there is, it could just be a short in the wiring some where.

That tells me you are getting power to the relay but loosing it before the fan.
Check the harness and connector for an obvious problem.
If you don't see something it is time to start checking the circuit with a DVOM.

O.k. so I followed what some other people have done on here from other posts I have found.

Pins 18,17,16 and 15 were corroded green, all others were completely silver. cleaned off male and female connections.

What would cause only these pins to turn green?

I have voltage coming from pin 17 and pin 14. Shorted pin 17 and high speed fan comes on, shorted pin 14 and nothing, disconnected fan plug once again and connected the battery to the fan, high speed comes on fine but applying +12v to the low speed pin does not make the fan come on slow or at all.
