i just bought my first SHO a 93 mtx. i paid 300 bucks, got it from a girl i work with. she says it runs good but she had it stall out on her and so she took it to the shop. the shop ran their tests and declare it's a bad intake manifold gasket. her husband tells me it'll run for a while and then shut off and if you let it set over night it starts right back up. he also says that the sparkplug wires pop off when it shuts off. anyone have any suggestions?

It sounds as if the car is probably in need of a good round of routine maintenance, starting with what we around here call a "60K" service. You can pull one of your front plug wires to check, but it sounds like your valve cover gaskets and plug well seals are probably leaking pretty good. A new set of gaskets along with new plugs and wires and a valve adjustment would be a good place to start, then you'll want to tackle the front side which is typically a new water pump, timing belt, and crank sensor.

Welcome aboard! :salute:

SHO maintenance

agree with above for 60K. :thumb:

http://www.shophoenixproject.com is the best site for self-help and is sponsored by the forum

the "won't start until it sits a while" problem sounds like the CPS (crank position sensor). you would fix this as part of 60k.

I would recommend liberal use of the search button on the forum. more info then you possibly could imagine.

as for the spark plugs "popping off" when car shuts off .... this is a must have video for my collection.

here is a link to my home website for more 60K photos.

Crank sensor issues do not always show up with a fault code but they match your symptoms exactly. If you are going to be working on a SHO, get familiar with the crank sensor job.

i would def say it is a 60k issue! I was having the same problems rough start and engine would die on me while iwas driving especially while trying to downsift.Area91 just did my 60k and it runs beautiful now(well i still have a problem with tranny). But hardest part is pinpointing the problem. Could be oil in the wells crank sensor etc.So i say just do the whole 60k. For some of your parts check out directfordparts.com, There is not much said about them on forum but they were a little cheaper then the other fordpart sites on forum. With the cam seals and a front seal i would say go with the motorcraft ones. Im sure people will chime in on that. But i have not read nething bad about the ford seals, only the felpro ones. For a few extra dollars it is safer to go with the factory ones. Also welcome to forum, you will come to find this as your best friend when it comes to trying to find out ANYTHING about your SHO. The people on here are very helpful!
