My 95 has begun leaking oil from around the oil filter. At least that LOOKS like where it is coming from. The starter is getting oiled and the filter gets wet. I took it to my neighborhood quicky **** and had them change the oil and put on a brand name filter, rather than their yellow generic one. It still does it. I broke down and pulled the new filter and checked for any reason for the leak. Maybe some yahoo had left one old gasket stuck to the engine. Maybe sratches on the surface. I didn't see anything. It looks like the aluminum surface is a removable piece. If that is the case, is there a seal between the filter mating surface and the actual engine block ? Is there a sensor or something above the filter that might leak onto the filter ?

The "U" hose on the oil cooler has coolant in it rather than oil. The oil cooler is attached to the block with some bolting mechanism. I haven't looked for this, but it is probably a large nut in the center of the cooler. Make sure it has not loosened.

As an update, I went to my local dealer and had him print out the diagram showing the oil filter and related items. There is a seal or o-ring for the oil filter adapter and a seal for the oil cooler. They wanted $60 for the pair and would have to order them. I posted a parts request at FordPartsNetwork.com . We'll see how much they are. The previous post mentioned Shonut as well. I'll give them a look
....

Here is the SHOnut pricing:

V6 Oil Cooler Bolt to Block Gasket E9DZ-6749-A 25.64 ADD 10% 28.49
V6 Oil Cooler to block Gasket E9DZ-6L621-A 10.69 ADD 10% 11.88

The second price is the Ford dealer price. My math shows that Ford should have quoted me about $40. Not $60. I guess my dealer is a rip off.

Mine is leaking on my V8 which has an Oring as the gasket. When I removed the cooler this spriing the Oring had swollenm and I could not get it back in. Ford does not sell the Oring as a seperate item and wants $400 for a new cooler with Oring. I used silicone at first but now that's leaking too. I think the original Oring hwill now fit after being exposed to the air for 6 months. I hope anyway.

There is a rubber gasket around every new oil filter. Occasionally, when you take the old filter off, the gasket will not come off with the filter. Thus, when you put the new filter on, you dont get a good seal. Check to see, it's happened to many of my cars before. thumbs_u

I'm still looking for that oil adapter O-ring on a Gen 3 V-8. Part # or size would be fine. Any help out there would be appreciated.

If you want a new seal for the oil heat exchanger to block, just take the seal off a new or old filter. It is a perfect fit and works. We recently did this on Scott's Remote-turbo SHO as the machine shop didn't give him his seal back. We just took the o-ring off a new filter and it poped right into the back side of the heat exchanger.

To remove the heat exchanger, use a larger socket (don't know the size, I always used a cressent wrench) and loosen the threaded post/****** that the filter screws on to. You'll see that the base of it has a place to put a deep well socket.
