Ok, so all of my spark plugs are completely submerged in oil. I know that this is a bad thing, but I'm not ready to do my upper 60K yet, plus the car runs/ran great without even a hint of a misfire. I am using Auto-RX, and am just curios to see if it has any positive effects on the plug well gaskets. Either way, I will still do the upper soon.

But back to my story. I decide to remove the oil from the wells. No problem, relatively easy procedure. But ten minutes down the road I start getting a terrible misfire.

After a close examination, my number 5 wire had a long crack in the boot. I guess that the oil acted as an insulator, and removing it allowed the conductor to ark. So in my case, in this instance, oil was my friend!

PS: Not recommended to try this at home. shrug

So, did you dump some fresh oil back in #5?

Could be the first time anybody wants oil in the plug wells!!

Good luck with the Auto-Rx. Please let us know how you feel about it when you're done. I'm probably going to try it myself soon.

I thought about re-oiling #5, but decided to repair the boot. Running nicely again.

So far I have mixed emotions about Auto-RX. I'm in the middle of the second treatment for the over 150K, and my two oil leaks seem to be getting worse. I have a leak in the rear main seal and the pan. I didn't expect to see any difference in the pan leak, but was hoping to see some improvement in the rear main seal.

I also have it in my power steering right now and in my transmission (MTX). Haven't noticed any difference in the sound from the power steering.

I will give an update in a few weeks after I do the upper, flush the power steering and replace the transmission fluid.

Of course I really used it for the cleaning more than for the leaks.
