Well I was cleaning my IAB valve and decided since the engine was cool to take off one of my plug wires. I didn't see any oil, so I was like cute, why not take a plug out. Well I put too large of a socket in and there was oil up to about 1/5th of the socket. Now I know I probably need a 60k done. But maybe this is an indication that a 60k might've been performed? I mean I hear of people with their wells filled with oil. Mine wasn't too bad. I have 93k on my car, and I was wondering if this was typical 30k after a 60k.

My car hasn't been missing, and it runs great.

I would do a 60k but money is tight, and since my car runs well I think I can put it off for a while. What do you all think?

If you want to buy some time just uget an old t-shirt and use the spark plug socket to push the t-shirt down around the plug. Do this over and over to soak up the oil.

The spark plug will pop a hole in the t-shirt allowing the shirt to get down close to the bottom and get the oil.

Because the plug puts holes in the shirt, you won't be able to wear it again.

Chances are that there has not been any maintenance performed on the valve cover or plug well seals. There should not be any leakage for at least 60,000 miles after a new seal has been installed. You can remove the oil with a vacuum pump or spray bottle pump with tube. The towel method is much messier and not as complete. Use intake cleaner spray to dissolve the last bit of oil and crud in the well and suction that out too. You need to thoroughly clean all of the oil and debris from the plug wells before removing any spark plugs.

I second Scott's suggestion.

Syphen the oil out with a spray bottle nozzle and pick-up tube. Just stick the tube in the well and spray the old oil out, and into an old bottle or can. Then use the cleaner, and re-syphen as advised.

It's a free fix that will buy you some time untill you can afford to do the complete job. And you won't wreck your clothes either! wink

ALright well thats not really good news jpshakeh

I'm not going to put many miles on the car for the next 4 years (college), so I mean if the car keeps running pretty well like it has I sadly will put off the 60k. I need to save my money..... free fixes are good :)
