Oil change

Time for my first oil change. Now, before I get attacked for beating a dead horse, I have searched and read through about 10 threads without finding what I'm looking for. All they have is members arguing about oil weight and warranty coverage.

I need to know the oil capacity of my car (11 non PP)

I don't need to hear "only use motorcraft bro" or "make sure you never use motorcraft bro" or "make sure you look at the dipstick at precisely a 37 degree angle or it will void your warranty"(joke) I just need to know how much oil to buy.

My '15 is 6 quarts. But I think the 10-12 's were 5.5 quarts.

Was there any difference between the oil pans or pump in the 10-12 vs 13 and newer?

I ask because I think my 2010 manual states 5.5 quarts. But the Ford manual says 6 and Ford just did my oil change and put in 6.

Also, the 99-04 Mustang had a similar situation. From 99-02 the manual stated 5 quarts and then in 03-04 it stated 6 quarts. Absolutely nothing changed except the manual because they realized under high rpm there was a potential to not have enough oil in the pan.

Is this the same case where nothing in the engine changed and they just changed the manual?

Always put 6 quarts in both my old '12 and now '13. Only thing that really change was the addition of the oil cooler on '13+ PP cars, but not sure that is a big enough change.

In my mind that would justify another 1/2 quart of oil. But regardless, I'm thinking there was simply a manual change similar to the Mustang. I will also be adding 6 quarts in the future since it appears to be a manual change and the Ford manual says 6 quarts.

Maybe they expect to lose 1/2 quart of oil to the infamous PCV system between oil changes? J/K!

Got the oil change done yesterday. 5qts put it at middle bottom of checkered area on the dipstick. 6qts put it just under the top of the checkered area. And before you ask, yes, I did check the dipstick at precisely 37 degrees. So no worries about the warranty.

Same here. 6 quarts using Mobil 1 oil and have no problems whatsoever.

Changed oil on the 15 SHO and it took exactly 5.0 qts(1.51 gal) which put the level right on the full mark.

You know that is a good question. I bought a gallon of oil and one extra qt and I was confused why the dipstick was on the full mark when I only put in a gallon of oil. I was later glad that I checked the level before I put in the extra qt. Now I know that this is a brain fade but the gallon containers are no longer a gallon but are five qts (1.51 gal). I have always bought oil in the case so that is where I got tripped up. Now back to your question. I have no idea why my dipstick shows full with just 5.0 qts and the owners manual calls for 6.0 qts. I have checked the oil several times and the dipstick is seated properly. Maybe its the oil filter capacity ?

Um, not to nit pick, but there are 4 quarts in a gallon. Which means 5 quarts would be 1.25 gallons, and 6 quarts would be 1.5 gallons. Just sayin'...

I think Auggie meant that he didn't realize that those gallon looking jugs are now sometimes 5 qt jugs. Only a problem with oil containers so far. More reason to inspect labels closely every time.

Yeah, that's what I think he discovered. However, in two separate posts, he stated the 5 quarts was 1.51 gallons. I just wanted to clarify the measurement.
