Oil burning

Hi all,

I got an answer on my oil consumption question, and it seems to be in the normal range. Yet, I got this one nagging problem that I have little or no clue what is up.

Here is the story:

I have a 91 SHO that leaves a plume of blue smoke, after it has been sitting over night. I was thinking initially valve seals, like a Chevy, but it does not burn oil on start up. Instead if I start it up and drive for like 1 minute, it will all the sudden leave a plume of smoke, and then clear out almost immediately. If I let it idle and warm up for like 10-15 minutes it will not do it. Any thoughts?

By the way, once in a while at WOT, pulling hard, it will leave some blue smoke. What do ya think? Anything to worry about, or is this the norm?

I have similar problems. I hear that These cars are renowned for Valve guide and seal failure. I get on it and mine plumes too! I am looking in the market for a used set of heads and have them rebuilt. After dumping a whole lotta cash into mine now, I may as well finish up this last step!! I hope this helps!! -Jim

I wouldn't say that the SHO is "renowned" for valve guide and seal wear. How many engines run the distance these engines do without some internal rebuild? You have to remember that we are keeping these rather high performance engines running for a long time. And hopefully a lot longer.
