Oil burning help

My 91 burns a quart every 250 miles. When I bought is 3 years ago, there was a puff of oil on startup, now it fogs the neighborhood on cold starts. The blue cloud is fairly dense. The visible cloud last for a few minutes then goes away. While it is smoking and cold, the car runs poorly, hesitation and jerking. After the cloud recedes, it runs fine. Based upon my garage floor it appears to have some oil retention issues (i.e it leaks).

I suspect valve stem seals, but it sure goes through a bunch of oil. Before I drop 300 on the Rotunda kit on Ebay and do all the work to replace the seals, is there other things I should be checking?

This weekend I will be replacing rod bearings and doing the front 60k. After that I thought I would do the top 60K, valve stem seals and plugs.

Valve seals it is.

Get two bottles of Auto-RX and follow the directions. It takes some time but will fix the problem.

Tried that already. Remember I am burning a quart every 250 miles. I don't think the Auto Rx stuck around long enough to do anything .

How long did you leave it in? I had the same situation, a quart every 250 miles. After 10k miles the oil burning was almost stopped. Got to the point where with a 3k oil change and I didn't have to add any oil.

Wouldn't you have to add about 5 quarts after an oil change...?

Do a compression check to at least have that data point on the health of the bottom end.
