im starting to do my own oil changes, and i was wondering what was a good combo for the SHO. i was thinking some 5w-30 castrol gtx "high mileage" and a k&n oil filter (i have had luck with k&n FOREVER). anyone used this?, or what else is a good combo for a 94 ATX?

Castrol makes excellent oil, as does just about every major oil company. K&N is a very good filter according to bobistheoilguy.com .
What is more important than brand is the method and frequency of the oil change.
The best time to change the oil is after a good drive at operating temperature. The condensation is evaporated and all the smaller particles are in suspension and will come out with the oil, rather than settling on the bottom of every passage and the pan. The larger stuff should be in the filter.

the reason i aks is cuz i was wondering if i needed to perform one, because the oul light is blinkin, but theres only like 2k miles on this oil, and the oil looks very dark to me. so i was wondering if this would be the right thing to do. i think the mechanic who changed my oil last time put the wrong grade in....

If your red oil light is blinking you have bigger problems than just needing an oil change.

Which oil light is blinking? The orange one (which is low oil level) or the red one (which is low oil pressure). Neither is good but the red is much more dangerous, and maybe terminal. You might be wise to look into rod bearins soon, or maybe an oil pump. If it is salvageable.

its the orangish light (thank god its not the red!), and it only flickered for like 2 seconds a couple times, but just enough to make me paranoid. I checked the oil level and everything is fine, and no drips under my car. so im wondering if its something to do with just taking it outta storage about 2 1/2 months ago? my regular mechanic said my car might need the first couple oil changes less than 2800-3000 miles to get all the slag or something like that out. could it be something like that? ill be doing a 120k with him sometime this summer, so ill prob replace rod bearings then anyways. cant wait to drive the big green van machine!!!!

Ok, well that is good. Was the car on a level surface (I don't mean to be rude by asking but a lot of my friends have made that mistake). You might just need to replace that sensor and be on your way. At any rate I would put new oil in there soon.

i checked it on my garage's floor, which has a 1 degree angle(i was bored), so its dang close to level, and it was fine. anyways were doin an oil change on friday, is there any little tricks or tips i should know? thanks for all ur help!
